There is more than one game during the world cup, 25B is the total number of non-unique people who watched all the games. It says that 700M people watched the final. If that many people watched every game there would have been ~35 games t

Totally agree, the usability of having a link that says "Add Question" to the right of the "Find" box, with no other button still makes me think I might accidentally be asking a question whenever I search. The only way to get search result

As an anecdotal point of reference, I monitor a number of stackoverflow categories with RSS feeds. I commonly read and answer these feeds with Reeder on my iPad sitting in a comfy chair in my living room, not at my computer. I answer less

I've had my N1 for about 6 months and have never had that happen. The touch screen isn't as good as on my 3G iPhone, but it never freaks as you've described.

Yep, Java is dying. Or the pie is getting bigger, or the TIOBE index methodology is flawed.

"-r" is the revision flag for the revision to push out. "." is a shortcut that just means "the revision that the working directory is at" (same as hg identify would show).

Sorry, I misunderstood your use case for the bug-fix branch. Yes, you likely wouldn't want a named branch for that. I use local bookmarks for this. It lets you think of it as a branch locally (it's really a floating tag), but doesn't (aut

Clones: I have seen a number of places talk about using separate repositories for branches in mercurial, but that's not how many people work these days. Just as with git, there are less efficient ways to do things. In the article you linke

Maybe I'm missing some nuance in what you're asking for, but in mercurial, you should be able to just create a named branch to get the same effect: hg branch bug-fixes hg commit -m "creating bug fix branch" hg update default hg br

Yet you're complaining about that option and saying that it doesn't support the branching model as git. It does support it, but you rejected it.

? you can "just branch and code" in mercurial too. I do it all the time. I'm not sure where you're getting your info. Sounds like you might be still thinking that the FUD from 2008 that the only way to branch in mercurial is to clone a re

Mercurial also talks with git ( http://hg-git.github.com/ ) so you can use it with github if you want. This was actually created by Scott Chacon, the guy who wrote the subject of the OP. I think it's worth giving both git and hg a try to s

It doesn't need to be that random on your side of things. It just needs to be unexpected/unpredictable by the subject getting the reward, but in some way paired with the performance you want to elicit more of. Think of gambling, the reward

The healthcare startup scene in MN is actually pretty vibrant, but other sectors aren't quite as strong. I've been involved in a number of healthcare start-ups in the Twin Cities over the years, including my current VC-backed one, Bloom Hea

My experience doesn't agree with the OP (though as others have noted, the plural of anecdote isn't data). From the start in 2008 through now, my reputation curve has been a pretty straight line: http://stackoverflow.com/users/8912?tab=repu

There are a number of ways to do this in mercurial. If you've got a set of uncommitted changes, only some of which you want to push out. Just commit the files (or use the record extension to commit only parts of files). Then, update back

I tend to think that this is the case as well. If you look at the GitHub Language Stats ( http://github.com/languages ) you'll see that Ruby takes up 38% of all lines of code on GitHub. JavaScript takes up another 25%. Python's only at 6%
