I happen to know someone working in the area of reliability and testing on JWT. Personally, I couldn't take the stress. The design as you point out seems to be unlike other missions where the very design limits failures. My understandi

Even if you can afford to pay it in full, if you have a cheap loan available where the interest payment is less than the after-tax interest you would otherwise accrue on it (as an investment of some sort) then overall you might come ahead o

Andras Tantos has ssh and X11 working [1] on his simulator so maybe there's a fairly straight-forward path to porting something like this? [2] Seems possible that this aspect of the platform might drive the need some rework though [1]:

Seems like they would need to have a compatible Android fork for this ... anyone know what pieces would need to be carved out and rebuilt for FB to mount a successful effort? Ie they don’t want this to benefit Google in any way. Or is there

Right, it’s clear FB’s assumption is that a significant % of iPhone users will choose “Ask App not to Track.” Ie they know some significant % of people don’t want this. They just blow past that entirely. I wonder if Apple’s App Store rules

The original article has been updated. M1 actually turns out faster on validation than Intel. Why? We were not running the same config as the author. You have to supply twitter.json as an argument otherwise it uses the compiled binary itsel

Banks and airline reservation systems tend to use vertically scaled "mainframe" architectures. In this model you need very high availability so hot-swappability is important. Linux even has hot-swap CPU support for systems like th

Oh one more thing, they said in the Apple Silicon event that they had eliminated a lot of the need for copying RAM around so … could be some actual footprint reduction there?

I tend to agree! I think Big Sur on M1 uses 16kB page size vs 4kB on Intel so maybe that contributes to more efficient / less obvious perf issue when swapping.

Seems like the solution is just put a short timeout on the OCSP call and fail positive? Nets the same behavior as when you’re offline.

I think there’s one more notable difference: the M1 MBP also has a brighter screen at 500 vs 400 nits. Both have P3 gamut and are otherwise the same resolution.

They were waving their hands around a bit saying that in addition to on-package RAM with high bandwidth, they have done optimizations inside driver, OS and APIs to eliminate 1 or even 2 or more RAM to RAM copies for common tasks. So maybe t
