I am a network engineer and have had routine access to 100 Mbps and multi-gigabit Internet connections for years. I honestly have no idea what home (or even business) users are going to do with gigabit connections -- including HD video, wh

Maybe consider re-using an existing wire protocol, such as that for Postgres or MongoDB (whatever is closest conceptually to your database)? Or use HTTP? That way you don't need to re-invent a client for every language.

In Charleston there is an impossibly narrow Charleston single house, built to be not much wider than a single doorway. It is a pastiche of classic Charleston building techniques, with three types of traditional roofing and five types of si

What I would do instead is one of a few things. First, "data" of any size (> 100 MB) should never be on the system volume... always have a separate data volume for exactly this reason. All these options allow the EC2 instance to stay

This is great research. However I completely disagree that this work supports their conclusion statement: > In summary, partitioning SQL queries into smaller commutative ones helps you get linear performance improvements as you scale o

I feel sorry for all the small businesses relying on PHP Fog who maybe don't have an in-house IT team and will really struggle to meet this very short deadline. I'm talking about the kind of business, who may have hired someone to build a

Great, so now all my mobile apps can have the same performance, consistent look & feel, and full access to the phone's capabilities as Phonegap / Cordova / Titanium! Clearly this is a step forward for mobile development.

As my two cents, although I am a Linux engineer, I don't want to manage a Web cluster just for Wordpress, so I use WPEngine in production for about 10 sites and it has worked very well and support has been sufficiently responsive. Reading a

WWWizer is pretty cool, but I'd rather roll my own on Heroku. I have a Heroku "app" that Heroku thinks is PHP, but it just contains a .htaccess file with some RewriteRule directives to 301 http://example.com to http://www.example.com .

The major difference is Knappsack is not limited to beta testing and is not limited to mobile apps. Knappsack supports those use cases well but it also works great for controlled distribution of production apps.

The idea is Knappsack enables a "private app store" for your mobile app development shop, or enterprise. Great for beta testing before launching an app public. Besides mobile, this can be used to distribute Mac or Windows apps also.
