Lobsters is invitation only: you have to find someone willing to sponsor you and your sponsor's reputation is tied to yours. In fact, the entire tree of sponsors is public. So people aren't just going to sponsor a stranger, and os

Lobster's barrier to entry is high enough (shades of gmail invitations) that in my humble opinion most people will choose the site over the browser.

May I suggest Firefox plus an ad blocking extension such as uBlock Origin? Enable every option, opt-in to every list and the web reverts to something a bit more palatable.

Yes, true today and the opposite for many: they don't want an expensive bundled subscription to subsidize sports when they don't watch sports themselves.

I realize this is ancient history, but prior to cable people got Big Ugly Dishes aka C Band dishes and at the time you could subscribe ala carte. When cable came along they practically doubled prices when they also bundled channels ostensi

I claim no expertise here, sorry. Best I can do is defer to Serve The Home; they have reviews of switches that include whether it's managed, actively cooled, throughput, etc.

Yes on Android it's already readable in Firefox, but that may be due to ad-blocking plugin. Even so, Firefox reader mode makes it even better.

Just my opinion but don't you want to patch that hole with a better switch? Or put it downstream of a switch that does enforce vlans? Most likely your iot devices don't really need anything more than 10-100 megabit connections any

My employer invested tens of millions in telepresence, telecommuting and remote working options. When the pandemic hit they got Zoom scaled up and working for tens of thousands of employees. Which it did, beautifully. Now that the pandemi

I adore OpenBSD because it's so lightweight, but I dropped it for FreeBSD when the same hardware couldn't max out a 1 gigabit connection running OpenBSD but could with Free. Since then they have made network changes so I'll p

Had an aunt who wanted to be reachable but only by her friends in the know. She confided to me in the late 70s if I needed her she was listed under J.P. Sartre.

Same! My IPC served my domain using Solaris on a nailed up bonded ISDN circuit until someone filled the root disk trying to patch the rpc.cmsd remote exploit. After that it was BSDs until I settled on OpenBSD.

This just underscores the fact (IMHO) we need a "cash for clunkers" program for obsolete and unsupported devices. I mean I'd love to see more moonshot programs like DARPA's Tractor but in the meantime why not create ince

Before you purchase anything try A1 solar. They often have deep discounts on single panels as well as container lots. For instance they have a 440 Watt panel priced at $140, six of which would get you 2,640 watts @ $840. https://

I recently purchased two third party solar panels for around $150 to feed a small Ecoflow battery. I specifically did not purchase Ecoflow panels because like their batteries everything is boutique priced. Based on energy costs, the panels

Many of them also have slate roofs. Slate's not going to suddenly start leaking unless it's cracked. Contrast that with roofs in the US that use asphalt that needs replacement every couple of decades.
