Presumably standing around outside, waiting for the SWAT team, and not letting anyone else enter the building. How the Uvalde PD didn't all get charged with aiding and abetting is beyond me.

Fantastic. One problem I've seen a few times, is the desire to consolidate teams to tackle the flavor-of-the-month project. You have an infrastructure team and an applications team, but somebody up the chain has staked their promotio

In my area there has been a lot of consolidation in healthcare in the last decade or so, and care has gotten noticeably worse. My dad, living 200 miles away, has similar experience. He describes his provider as "Procedure oriented&qu

The town I grew up (about 10k people, in the midwest) had exactly one bike cop. I don't recall his real name, but everybody called him Lurch. The story was that when he was new, he spent a day speed trapping outside the police statio

I remember watching Jacques Villeneuve crash pretty hard in the 2000 Australian Gran Prix (tragically a loose wheel stuck and killed a marshal). I read an interview with him later, he said he ran back to the pits after the crash, but he

Similar to suggestions that Android offer the option to provide fake location data to apps that require it without good reason: It's a fantastic idea and seems easy to implement, but might make it less painful for users to opt out of a

I've been a gearhead practically my whole life, so I totally understand. Personally I think ICE cars will soon be thought about much the way we think of steam locomotives. They're pretty cool, some people will always love them,

Prices are up, wages are up, but last I checked (admittedly a month or two ago) profits were doing just fine. That profits are still solid under so many adverse conditions indicates to me that there is a lack of competition in the market,

I agree. As a parent, I both want my kids to learn, and I want care for them so I can work. I think if we were more honest about both these needs, we could do better at both. I have seen a certain mania that schools are only for educatio

The Democratic party seems to be a lot more competent, and try a lot harder, when they are combating progressives, as opposed to when they are combating the other party.

Also likely that your average CEO is not spending time washing dishes, doing the laundry or grocery shopping. There is more capacity for "work" when the only work you do is your day job.

The problem with taxing consumption is that it's pretty regressive. Not to say that there aren't solutions, but the existing sales tax, gas tax, etc aren't it.

We have a century plus of developing resource extraction and refueling infrastructure for ICE transportation. It seems unreasonable to expect electric infrastructure overnight. New charging stations are being built all the time. Renewabl

I'm shocked at the lack of humanity in this story. Every once in a while an "enemy" will start a war, and we'll get a bunch of coverage about orphans and mothers and fathers and horror, and I think maybe just maybe peop

This. There is a term for failing to look where you want to go, the result of which is going where you are looking: target fixation. It's a frequent cause of motorcycle crashes, and I see it quite a bit at the track. A rider gets sc

For sure. I ride a 2000 CBR929RR. 150 horsepower, only weights ~ 435 lbs, and it's fuel injected. Sure, a brand new CBR1000RR has ~40 more HP and is 2 lbs lighter, but 150 is still ridiculous for a street bike. I can't get to
