Dalton is very patient, damn frugal, and smart. His API programming team is off-the-charts talented (essentially 14 Stanford and Carnegie Mellon guys), and here's the important part - they get along very, very well. So, the team is tight,

Everything in my bones (25 years, 中文研究, China research) tells me the China government is directly involved with this. China is corrupt beyond belief, and any smaller destabilization can lead to further problems. I agree that this may be a

Thanks, Moxie - The original article in China (by top-notch geeks) wrote 中间人攻击 which translates directly to "man-in-the-middle attack". Appreciate your insight - thanks for weighing in on this.

That's ridiculous. Dalton is the natural expert to point out just how far Twitter has sunk. Twitter's a metaphor for broken Silicon Valley "ethics". Dalton is building disruptive infrastructure. Since when is debunking a bad idea .. negati

Well said. Its a wide-open place and welcomes engineering opinions ... the price (+/-) has been hotly debated inside App.net. I admire Dalton for moving down ONLY slightly on price. He actually raised it on the monthly, yet allowed people t

Two points. 1) App.net expenses are quite low. Nowhere near your $500K-$720K range. Since it's not "free", it's going to be quite profitable. 2) App.net is NOT shooting for 1 million users. Not yet. Paul Graham challenged people in his PyCo

Tent is great. Love it. 5-6 loosely integrated infrastructures will replace Facebook, Twitter, G+ (ad model) over time. App.net is one of those infrastructures. Please get off the "twitter clone" smackdown ... it's lame. App.net is a trustw

Twitter missed its chance to become just such an Imternet messaging protocol, on the order of email and HTML. APP.net is a collaboration to reverse Twitter's historical lack of backbone, choosing not to evolve into that world-class protocol

It's not Twitter. I'm pretty sure you didn't finish reading Orian's article. Essentially, two ideas are happening simultaneously, which is why most people (including talented engineers) still think this is a Twitter clone. It's not at all.

Dalton Caldwell is responding to PG's call at PyCon to "swing for the fences, and build $1b large, scalable platforms". PG suggested having the balls to disrupt Google Search itself, by building a new search platform, only for the top 10,00
