Most people are nice. Most people are glad to help. Most people don't like wasting their time. Most people don't want to be taken advantage of. Given those conditions I think this article makes good sense. Approaching people with those co

Does anyone here know what restrictions on the sale of an item are legal (at least in the U.S.)? If I agree to sell you item X given that you promise Y, what are the legal values of Y? For example, I can't sell you a piece of property with

Newton had Leibniz (and others) pushing calculus. Einstein made use of ideas from Lorenz pushing Relativity. Elisha Gray applied for a patent on the telephone the same day as Alexander Bell. Perhaps I should have been more clear. The fa

When I was much younger I had an idea for a frisbee-yo-yo. You could play frisbee by yourself! Thirty years later I have yet to see anyone release anything similar. In fact I couldn't get any of my prototypes to work how I wanted. Moral

Ok, I'll give that a try. But just for one day. This seems related to the smart/hard work attitude. If you think you solve problems because you are smart, then come across a problem that seems too difficult you are more likely to give up th

And all this time I just thought I was lazy. Actually, this article made think about what the relationship is between being lazy and being a procrastinator. Once I get going I enjoy working and it feels so good to get things done. Still,

What is the thoughtless part of asking a question? If there is global warming some places will be better off and some worse. Is it so thoughtless to do a cost / benefit analysis?

No, human nature inevitably leads to corporatism. Let me give my definition of capitalism and corporatism to start my argument. Capitalism: People are free to buy and sell their own property as they see fit. This necessarily implies peopl

Upvote what you want more of. Downvote sparingly. I usually upvote more on comments I agree with and reserve downvoting for rudeness or gross stupidity (regular stupidity is better dealt with with a comment).

There are two sides to this issue, neither of which are unfair. The employer hires people to solve problems in a given space and has a right to make sure they own what they paid for. On the other side the problem space doesn't (shouldn't)
