If apple loses the creative industries they lose a lot more than points of market share.

Given a large proportion of premium mac sales are to people in the creative industries using specialist software distributed outside the app store, I don't think your intuition is correct on this one.

I've been thinking about this a lot in terms of urban housing. Maybe it's just too expensive now, but modern houses just look like cheap painted boxes inside and out. There's no attention to small details, no flourishes or em

The thing that I find most humourous about British Rail - as a non brit, former colonial subject, who lives in London - is that they literally invented high speed rail, then lost the ultimate prize to the French (i.e. France ran ahead with

Yes, I have friends who are involved in this sort of thing and it's nothing like you describe. It's almost like you want to paint the whole thing with a broadbrush to try and make their criticisms irrelevent.

The VM has an overhead, but looking at our kube cluster right now which runs elixir and ruby pods (treating elixir as shared nothing, old school stateless, rather than distributed), mean RAM for our ruby pods is 1GB, Ex ones are 200MB. Resp

Ugh, sorry to hear that! You could probably order online? There's loads of food suppliers, both retail and trade, that have setup online shops recently.

I live in London, so I appreciate the difference, but I can get literally any food and ingredient I want walking distance from my house. Only thing is, none of it's from the supermarkets. Do you not have a local butcher or whatever aro

If this has been flagged off the front page I despair for HN. This should be an apex story for us: open source release of a computer model that has incredible relevance to loads of people globally. Quite sad.

That issue is unhelpful. Yes, no good tests, but how about suggesting ways it can actually be improved? Why are devs such bores when it comes to things like this? They have released the model, review it and suggest improvements! Don't

Genuinely inspiring. Made me realise how long it's been since someone high up in tech actually took a stand and a risk and defended their principles publically. Thank you and know that your actions are meaningful and appreciated.

I didn't realise they offered Kubernetes as a managed service. Will seriously evaluate when our GCS credits are getting closer to running out. VPC, Kube and managed DB is all we need (and Terraform providers).

We store our sessions in Redis and don't do hot code swapping but deploys do still mostly just work and live channels normally reconnect without any noticeable downtime. We run everything on GKE so a deploy is just rolling container sw

Metabase is great, I just wish it would support BigQuery properly as currently you need to connect to each dataset individually. Still, it’s the best OSS software tool I’ve used, I think. Deploy the container to whatever, give it be creds,
