"The mind illuminated" is a very good introduction to meditation. It is unique in the formal system he used to make sense of the various levels of practice. Very practical and low-BS.

Very nice. One question though: as far as I understand, it relies heavily on the fixed-size vocabulary to reduce keyboard size. Is it still able to handle names (of persons, countries...) which are not part of the vocabulary?

There might be a problem in taking it too literally, but I think the underlying concept is very current, and maybe even more important than when the book was written: as much as possible, favor keeping a written trace and avoid disruptions

On that topic, I really like David Allen's "hierarchy of communication channels" (name is mine) in Getting Things Done. He says that when you need to discuss something with someone, you should consider the following communica

That is a really cool approach! Is the kobo still usable as an e-reader after the config change? I own one but I have so little time to read lately that it is mostly taking the dust. Being able to use it as some kind of always on display, w

I am more and more reluctant to use any note taking app. Ideally, notes I take on the book I am reading today should still be available to me in 20 years. No app can offer that kind of guarantee. I switched to using plaintext files, and do

I once heard that this used to be a way to emphasize, by adding the thing you do not do. Not very clear, bit here are some examples: - je ne marche _pas_ (I not not walk _any step_) - je ne me bat _guerre_ (I do not fight _any war_) - je ne

I totally second reading the book front to back. It is not that long and fairly well written, and can save so much time and frustration in the long run. Giving the link is the first thing I do when helping someone with git. Unfortunately so

That is a fantastic visualization to get a feeling of the scales involved. It reminds me a lot of the "planet trail" next to Zurich, Switzerland, a trail with scale models of the sun and the planets [1]. The sun is about 1m in dia

I ask this kind of questions rather often, and rarely have the problem of it being interpreted as #1. Thinking about it, I think there are two things the author missed: - tone of voice. Any of those can sound really snarky or very intereste

Can you really build packages using solely Conda? As far as my understanding goes, conda focuses on providing virtual environments for interactive use, but to build and distribute a package on conda forge, you still need to rely on setuptoo
