This wouldn't be so bad if they hadn't included the part about Zuck actually explaining what he meant by the "hacker way". It's like they breezed right over it and started making references to Anonymous as if that has anything to do with w

Seems like a tacit admission that they believe the terrorists are somewhat incompetent. That guy sure did seem to have a lot of trouble getting his underwear lit.

The bars are crowded, eating establishments are packed, noisy has hell. But how many of those people drove to the downtown area because there were no equivalent establishments within walking distance of their suburban homes? Not tr

Most people would be appalled if they saw what the police get away with when they ask for search warrants. In the two areas I have personal experience with, the process of getting a warrant is an administrative inconvenience to the police,

I've taken the weeder classes at decent colleges and I have to say that "not up to it" simply means undisciplined. While my experience isn't all-encompassing, I personally haven't seen any undergraduate class that couldn't be passed by alm

You're right. Most users won't. But if 1% of users actually do that's an enormous impact. Right now, there's nothing to even push them in that direction. Even users who get riled up will probably feel their work has been done by signing

I'm totally happy with what Google did to their homepage. It will definitely get attention. I'm disappointed about their call to action. It vaguely points users to a message that "Congress" (who in Congress?) is doing something bad. Sig

I'm in the US. I just recently switched to a high-deductible plan last year with an HSA account. My deductible is $5000 and my monthly premium is $98 (for an individual plan -- self employed here). I have and plan to always contribute th

I've tried rest-client, em-http-request, and mechanize. I don't recall their specific failings except for mechanize, which seemed to work awesome in 95% of cases and produce cryptic errors with the latter 5%. I will take a look at httpart

I didn't find making moderately complex HTTP requests in Ruby to be much more fun than urllib2 in Python. Do you have a library you recommend?

I don't really think it's limited to high school and college. The average Joe Sixpack American is likely more concerned with his nearest professional football team's performance than any other singular element of his life. I was born and

I agree. I've worked for years, sometimes with people that I've never met in person, and had great working relationships while learning very little about their lives. I enjoy having separate work and social lives.

Well-armed criminal groups and government forces can have a war. I don't think anyone disputes that. But you can't go to war against a concept (i.e. drug use).

Does anyone have any decent Comcast alternatives for South Florida (Palm Beach area)? I'd love to flip off Comcast over this but I'm not sure where else to put my money. I will be needing internet access, after all.

I transferred my domains to NameCheap from GoDaddy during their last PR nightmare. I wish I had done it sooner. NameCheap's interface isn't the best in the world, but not having to use GoDaddy's site is worth more to me than 5x the transf

If you're coming from Java and using a Java IDE you'll probably feel most natural moving to Scala. I personally came to exploring Scala and Clojure with limited Java experience (and a preference for Vim and the command line) so getting sta
