The problem is that neither of those really seem to fill the shoes of Discord for us. In Discord I can do text chats, voice chat, can post gifs, and can even screen share. It also does all of that with no requirements for hardware or setup

Yeah I agree with all that for the current situation but how I interpreted the other person was that even if checking was absurdly trivial he would still be against it (obviously it can't happen in real life but it's just a hypoth

I'm a little confused, are you saying that there should be no copyright? It's a little hard to discern your position because if you are for copyright it would seem like you are against policing it.

I went to a private school that had less funding than the local public school but the students were more motivated so my school performed better. Funding helps but having a school with motivated students will always create a significant gap

I'm a little surprised at this sentiment because they are also very often vilified here. For pretty much everything they do you can find a few comments about how what they are doing is evil.

Most of the mistakes are pretty simple errors and with how many news articles are printed each day it would be weird not to have errors like this (also it's essentially impossible hundreds of journalists could be communicating with eac

People seem to dislike both ads and paywalls. I'm curious if sites will find another way to monetize eventually.

One thing weird for me is I've had issues with Javascript UIs on different platforms but Java backends running on different platforms actually have been pretty consistent. Is there something about javascript or UIs (or both) that make

Keeping all knowledge locked up would stifle innovation but not having trade secrects at all would also stifle innovation. Even IT orgs need some of their stuff to be proprietary sometimes

Knowledge sharing is often good but stealing trade secrets isn't really the same thing (just imagine a large corp stealing trade secrets from a startup and you'll see how it could stifle innovation)

It's not the only way to get prior art but prior art isn't the only reason a tech company wants to try to get patents so I'm a little unclear on your point.

Their main goal is to not get sued. As long as no one else is granted the patent they probably won't be too unhappy. As a large tech firm just not patenting anything doesn't seem practical given the current patent law even if you

Saying that women as a population are less able to do tech jobs seems functionally very similar to the original characterization of "suggesting women are biologically less-qualified than men for tech jobs".

What he was talking about was the impact of the specific rules that the market operators imposed so I'm a little confused how the market having rules invalidates the comparison.
