I have since apologize for this stupid comment here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=371638 I didn't reply here because I doubt the down-vote wave has crested.

Seriously people? I didn't expect this to be taken well by most here (in fact it was an experiment to see if there was a limit to down-voting), but some of you seem to be on a war path now. It doesn't really matter what the Justin.tv CEO sa

Hear, hear. I was going to post something like this because I have lived among people in third-world countries who actually have it hard (total understatement), but it's better that it came from someone with immediate family who lived it.

If you use a product made by a company that can't manage to fix something like that over the course of 4 years ("fix" because it goes against their own guidelines) you probably deserve to have all your fonts look like shit. Just sayin'.

Your follow-up makes a lot more sense and seems less judgmental, thank you for clarifying. There is one part I have to disagree with, though: ...the loss to society is large. There will always be people looking for the quick buck, quick

Well, it's not me . This former banker taught himself a new platform, realized an idea, and created a game that obviously many people are entertained by. The real-world impact? He got to quit a job he (apparently) didn't like very much, cr

For TS we're trying to decide how to make sign-up dead simple. Since we want to support alerts and such, we'd like to simply use an e-mail/pw combo so that you only have to fill out 3 fields when you sign up (email/pw/pw confirm). Do you h

It's important to note that being a competent typist and being a competent programming typist are different things. On the test that Jeff linked to in his post, I scored 101 WPM. Throw in enough symbols and numbers and other non-standard

Sulking for 5 months isn't much of a life. Life is short. Exactly my thoughts. The author's tolerance for ignorance and blatant hostility is far greater than mine. I would have booked a flight back home as soon as I heard "We don't take t

One day we suddenly had a Slinkset site that was fully decked out in the TicketStumbler layout. They have magical gnomes working there, or something. And it's currently one of our top 3 traffic drivers! <3 Brett & John and fully rec

I think more surprising is how easy it is to be Geographically ignorant. I have been to roughly 20 different countries and would be hard pressed to locate some of them on a map. Honestly, who cares where Kyrgyzstan is? ;)

Yeah, but if everybody did that you'd no longer get that free stuff... There are certain things you can't simply charge for successfully. Not many people would pay a subscription to read a blog, for instance.

Next time we're in SF we need to get Garry to take a bunch of "stock" photos of us then just give them to these publications. He's taken one random picture of me and it was good enough to replace my profile picture on every site that has on

I have had less than stellar success with multiprocessing in non-trivial applications. There seems to be a lot of undesired "magic" going on, such as workers having access to global imports which causes all sorts of issues. If I want a work

I wouldn't describe the title as "strong," I'd describe it as a good indicator of idiocy ahead. I'm glad that online advertising can either be booming or dead; if there were a middle ground I might actually have to use my brain. Disclaimer:
