Sure, maybe if you've never done it before because it's a learning experience, but it's a patently horrible idea otherwise.

I think it's a sort of "I'm happy you're happy" thing. Whenever I congratulate someone on having a child, I'm not literally congratulating them on having sex and spawning another human. That would be silly. Although, there are many couples

Abstract concepts like happiness, comfort and love aren't really problems. By creating some sort of device which provides these things you are essentially eliminating their meaning in the process. How could you truly appreciate them if they

I would argue that someone destined to be a good programmer would have the ingenuity and drive to install a freakin' compiler and IDE. It isn't exactly rocket science.

I don't think we've ever gotten a piece of "personal attack" criticism that I took seriously. The way I figure it, I know myself way better than anybody else and am more than capable of issuing personal criticism. I'd have felt a lot worse

Oh, I gotcha. Yeah, we do a number of things to keep costs low in lieu of saving time. This mostly applies to doing certain grunt work that we could pay to have done. If you think of it like "TicketStumbler is for frugal people" and "Ticket

Well of course if everybody spent all that time to find the lowest prices and developed knowledge of pricing we'd stop making money. But they're not going to do that, just like everybody isn't going to randomly decide to learn the way air t

Yeah, the last thing I worked on like that was a networking engine and I could really see where tests would have helped me a lot (all existing code was covered, but not the new stuff I was writing). Hopefully I will get to work on that so

My dirty little programmer secret is that I've never written a unit test. Thanks for making me feel bad :( I watched the video and, indeed, it did not absolve me of my sins.

Yeah, but how many books about Jesus have animals on the cover? Rails has a lot of animals. Django has no animals, except a bee or something. Rationally, I guess I shouldn't have picked Django.
