It's always seemed odd to me that most people douse their skin in antibiotics every day. I'd love to see a study on flora, like this study on gut flora: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19018661

The viruses didn't have to evolve specifically to fight, it could have been a side effect. For example, maybe cancer cells make better viral hosts because of their unchecked metabolism. So the virus evolves to exploit cancer cells firs

Would you be interested in talking about this? I'm trying to get neuroimaging department to standardize methods for communicating data/models/findings and I'd love to talk to someone who's been through it.

What is Humble Bundle in his ontology of 'the supply chain of creative work'? it looks like they fill all of the same roles as Apple. I feel like this might not be the right way to divide the industry.

Those are victories, but I wouldn't credit them to peer review. I think of "peer review" as what happens between a manuscript being submitted and it being published.

I think that what is different now is the cost of trying out a new idea. A biotech team is able to try something out without buy-in from academia or the big bio-tech firms. They need some money, but much less than they would have needed 10

I had the exact same experience. I was expecting it to be another 'Big Bang Theory.' But I genuinely enjoy it. It's not the dumb kids making fun of the smart kids. It's the smart kids making fun of themselves.

In my experience, CS faculty are more open to the idea that their PhD students probably won't be pursuing academic careers. In biology, the attitude is more like, "if you don't want to be a professor, what are you doing here?
