There’s no way within web standards to match iOS native api UX. Even on Android where you have chrome as the mobile browser you can’t match it. Even if you could ship chrome renderer on iOS you won’t be able to make a mobile web app feel as

It seems to me like one obvious improvement is for npm to require 2fa to submit packages. The fact that malware can just automatically publish packages without a human having to go through an MFA step is crazy.

With the New Architecture & Expo, react native is in a great state right now and is gaining momentum. We've been able to onboard a lot of web devs onto working on our new Expo universal app at my employer and only a small subset of

Yeah but the UI is webviews. It's not as native as React Native.

They are close to finally stabilizing the API (as much is possible given underlying platform stability). New Architecture has been in the works for 8 years. It’s such a massive upgrade over legacy architecture. Migrating our app to new arch

It’s good enough that the ecosystem outweighs the superiority of something like SolidJS. React has React Native as part of its ecosystem. That’s a massive advantage. react-strict-dom is going to be a game changer for the development of univ

A great native app on an iPhone feels far superior to a mobile website. The gestures, the stack navigator, haptics, scrolling, native ui primitives, etc… Also iOS accessibility screen reader APIs are way better than the web. Accessibility a

There’s nothing wrong with discussing moving away from native apps and their very real downsides. I was merely offering data showing that the vast majority of people do not share this sentiment, and one would be wise when launching a produc

You need the BEAM because operating systems we have available do not have the properties of the BEAM. OS processes are far to heavy and slow to start, and the scheduler doesn’t work the way erlang needs it to. The BEAM solves those issues a

This is a site mostly centered around startups and building products. I notice a common anti-mobile-app sentiment here, and the criticisms are valid, but I think that it’s important to keep in mind that for many apps having a mobile app is

The main thing that makes it more powerful imo is that you can accomplish insane rebases with 1 command that would be really difficult with git. Like let’s say you have 4 separate PRs in review that have no dependency on each other. You the

The moment anyone tries anything on that scale of geoengineering, they will immediately be blamed for whatever weather-based natural disasters that follow. I just don’t see how this can work without creating massive diplomatic tensions.
