That was the amazing thing about the format. It didn't need much of a network effect to work as you could just record your own stuff. And obviously, as soon as one person in the group got one, many others followed. It was great.

Maybe because people weren't buying pre-recorded MiniDiscs? But as far as I can tell, that wasn't the point... In the late 90s I had a Sharp 722 (in champagne gold iirc) and you could plug that thing into a pair of decks (UK Garag

As far as I can tell, this is confirming at least 120 sightings as UFOs in the literal sense – rather than visual artefacts.

Most countries have a series of 'tests' to determine tax residency. I can't remember all the details, but a lot of it comes down to substantial ties. i.e. spouse, family, primary residence, secondary residences, number of day

I always find it interesting that people expect Human existence, and therefore the environment for its emergence, is somehow atypical. I don't know the math, but I would have thought by definition, one would wager on it being typical.

Yes, I meant Redux specifically, and all the other Elm derivative frameworks. I think that was clear.

Well, it seems to me that the creators of the mentioned frameworks cite Elm as their inspiration – even if it wasn't the genesis of the concept.

I'm also intrigued where the Actor model will leave Combine. Are they designed to work together? Many of the Rx based architectures (The Composable Architecture in Swift, React, Cycle.js, etc) that have appeared – all inspired by Elm (

Will be interesting to see how this plays out for London long-term. Obviously there’s been massive fallout, businesses decimated, and I’d personally have preferred we stayed in the EU – but it seems to me we’re yet to see what the ultimate

I’ve noticed the same effect; if I’ve been off the caffeine for a while and have a coffee – it’s great. But there appears to be a negative counter-effect that compounds when it becomes routine.

We’re literally looking for evidence that there was carbon life on the planet next door. When you consider that, just in the image provided, there are at least 1B x 1B solar systems. 1e18. Or about as many solar systems as there are grains

Most people don’t read many reviews though. Just the ‘most helpful’ and the review tally. Worse, the store search results pages use the review scores to rank apps too.

This review fraud has got way out of hand. Right now, it would be better to remove reviews entirely and for consumers to make a decision based on the product page alone. The consumer trust in reviews is at such a low that it’s adding fricti
