I had heard about Z80’s 4-bit ALU (2x for 8-bit math). Is this considered a major bottleneck? Were there later extensions that added higher bit integer math? I’m curious whether an open source version of the chip will enable new features

I once went to a drive-up ATM and withdrew $100. It deducted $100 from my account, but the machine gave me $300 instead. I walked into the branch and returned the money. They were thankful, but I never followed up with what happened. It

It’s good to recoup some energy. But in a cold climate, you could be using a heat pump to move 2-5x more heat into the home for the same amount of energy as electric resistive heat.

The backstory of the Tomy Tutor is interesting. This seems like it was a tremendous longshot, financially. It’s hard to imagine how this would be greenlit in today’s age. There are so many weird architectures of the 1980s — I appreciate

If a Private Equity group decided to buy them out and restructure, it would make a fascinating case study. If some radical restructuring does happen, I hope they bring along a film crew to make a documentary in the process.

With cppfront, Sutter is explicitly not trying to create a successor language. His goal (like TypeScript to JavaScript) is to provide a complimentary, parallel language which provides complete forwards/backwards compatibility with C++

IMHO, Herb Sutter was spot on in his talk ( https://youtu.be/fJvPBHErF2U ) that it is impossible to walk back features of a language once they are in the wild. His cppfront is an interesting and refreshing approach. I think

Judging by my nine year old, Epic will be doing fine for some time. They have an ecosystem of other tangentially related games available, including a Lego RPG-type game all built on top of their v-bucks payment system and their account

I was not familiar with Silverblue. It looks very promising. The idea of creating a fundamental, shared base system should make troubleshooting significantly easier — possibly an exponential reduction in the possible installed permutation
