What I meant was that it needs to be part of a curriculum that begins with early childhood. IMHO, JavaScript is too complex for most four and five-year-olds. There should be a progression with Logo, MIT's Scratch, etc. building up to mor

Fog Creek might be a special case. Over the years, Joel has amassed a good deal of goodwill and has probably done a better job of selling his product than any salesperson.

I imagine the first X covers cost of production, where cheapo brands cut corners to satisfy the quantity crowd. After that, you start to see price heavily affected by market segmentation, and availability. The small batch shop need to sel

Getting kids interested in programming is a good idea. But, this should be done early and in stages. Little kids should do something simple like Logo (maybe with a 3D printer for fun).

Imagine a tax system for IP modeled on real estate property taxes. To retain a patent, you would pay a tax based on assessed value. You could sell the patent, or enter it into the public domain. Failure to pay would result in forfeiture

It all depends on whether they hire for quality or quantity. I've worked alongside some H1B workers who were top notch. But, I've seen the other side too. Finding good talent is incredibly hard. We probably won't have to worry about sta

Lego is now competing for attention with applications such as Minecraft. It will be interesting to see if pricing trends hold, or whether they attempt to preserve market share by cutting costs. Maybe Minecraft will start to move into the

It seems that some of these problems could be solved through voice commands, which the Model S supposedly has. I'm not familiar with the functionality, though.

I was shocked to learn the extent of shorting Tesla stock -- Yahoo Finance reports 52% of float (as of Jan 15 2013). That's more than Groupon and Overstock! I suppose it could give the stock some pop if they can pull it off, as those shor

Your life improve substantially, given focus and clarity. Most people make a mixture of good, fair, and horrible decisions every day. If you go from a 50% hit rate to 75%, it can make a huge impact in your life. I look at it like "pot od

We will never know the truth. The CEO of every financial institution swears up and down about the strength of their company right up until the moment it goes bankrupt. Look at Jon Corzine and MF Global...

It's extremely difficult to judge a software development candidate's abilities from a short interview. Every company I've worked for has used the school/degree/GPA as filtering criteria. Otherwise, it would be impossible to interview ever

I agree about Microsoft's heavy-handedness. Interestingly, the C# language up to version 3.0 is ISO standard (SO/IEC 23270:2006).

I believe when traversing memory in a predictable, linear fashion the CPU will prefetch data. I thought the CPUs are smart enough to do that for the more complex examples as well, but maybe not for steps of 1024.

I have an idea of creating an Intellectual Property tax (similar to property taxes) based on an assessed value of the licence. You would pay yearly to maintain a patent. Or, you could enter it into the public domain.

Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but if The Street knows that large blocks are going on sale, this would be an optimal price to run down the price.
