Is it the principle or the price that makes people upset? If the workers demanded a $1000 raise, is Lexmark just in firing those workers and hiring workers that are willing to work for less?

I love the idea of setting an hourly timer to do something physical like 50 jumping jacks.

Agreed. Elixir is my first foray into functional programming and the paradigm is obviously different from OO. The Elixir community on both IRC and Slack have been incredibly patient and helpful for a hack like me. Both in solving specific p

Why does "pay disparity" or income inequality matter? Suppose two people start at 10. One person finds a way to go to 20 and the other goes to 11. The inequality has increased and the wealth of both people has increased. Technica

Is $2/mo or $10/year enough to make a viable business and living? I love, love this idea and how you've done it. But I'd be really sad to see the service take off and you can't support it because the model doesn

Fwiw, the Rails app I'm rebuilding into Phoenix IS in fact a payment system. EDIT: I also believe Heroku's request routing system is built on Erlang.

I thought the same thing too. A couple responses: 1) The Elixir community is still in its infancy and the community is growing rapidly and flourishing. If the concern is there isn't an equivalent Elixir library for X gem, it's onl

Fortunately, you don't have to make the choice between performance and productivity any longer. Elixir and Phoenix give you the great productivity and the performance of being run on the Erlang VM.

Prosecutors have almost absolute immunity. A prosecutor can intentionally cheat the system, get a conviction, put a person in jail, and if caught, there is no lawsuit that can be filed against them and it's almost impossible to get the

Do you have any blog posts on task-queues and email sending/receiving? I'm trying to learn Phoenix and Elixir by rewriting an app I have that does just this. Sidekiq has been great as a background worker, but I'd like to try

I seriously doubt First Round will dogfood their own "data" and invest only in startups that follow these 10 learnings over the next 10 years.

Seems like it would require the same amount of work to pay out $10,000 vs. $100,000. Why scale the fee? Does this apply to marketplaces/accounts migrating from Balanced? There was an assurance that Stripe would honor Balanced's pr

Ahh, you're right. To make an ACH debit, you'd need to verify a bank account beforehand. And I don't think client libraries support a `bank account resource` w/o curling. Maybe I'm missing something.

Will I have the ability to debit ACH w/o verification? (I currently have this ability with Balanced. Also have very low fraud, chargeback, etc.)
