This is only true for Intel and AMD x86_64 servers that have hardware accelerated AES with the AES-NI instruction set. Software implementations of AES and the other ciphers are much, much slower than AES with hardware acceleration. RC4 was

The problem with -Werror in open source projects is that it can produce errors for users building your code on different compilers or compiler versions than the one you originally developed it for. As compilers change they can end up adding

Optimizing floating point calculations in this way will impact the precision of your results. Multiplying by the reciprocal will not produce the same results as a division, especially when the error is compounded over multiple operations. U

So then the computer software that generated the joke would be considered the work of art instead of the jokes that were generated? After all, the software was man-made, even though the generated output was computer-made.

A standard C string will never be 0 bytes. There is the zero terminator at the end of the string, so all strings will be at least 1 byte large.

This would be a case where C99 style designated initializers would come in handy in C++. For example if you have a struct like: struct data { double w; double x; double y; double z; }; You can then create a

The complexity is already there, iterators just help you manage it better. Even "just a reverse loop" is more complex than you might think, as evidenced by the article above.

Iterators are a technique and are not bound to any particular programming language. Iterators abstract the idea of iterating through data. Instead of keeping track of the array index and thinking of it in terms of counting up or down, you i

Those are scalar instructions, not the SIMD instructions. With x86_64 the fpu stack operations are basically for legacy purposes only, and normal floating point operations are expected to be done with the SSE/AVX scalar instructions. S

Is this really that crazy? A 64-bit immediate value takes 8 bytes. So of that 10 byte instruction, 8 bytes of it are the value to load into the register. Similarly, a 32-bit immediate value takes 4 bytes, so 4 bytes of the other instruction
