content wise, HN and r/programming seem to have the same headlines from day to day.(at least the ones that aren't about valley/startup/funding/managerish bs) HN is unique in that it tends to be more civil than r/programming(and there's more

this is a nice overview of flask. now I can have an informed opinion about it without ever having used it.

agreed. first tip that comes to mind is to organize your css for easy maintenance. There's plenty of times I've gotten css and html that is a mess but somehow looks ok in ie6. Tip #2, give up on pixel perfect designs

just a guess but if .json was implemented as a property and deserialization fails, you would get an AttributeError instead of the error reporting that there was a problem with deserialization. leaving it a method call would allow for the re

so, for about as long as pep 3333 has been approved. that was my point. No web framework that uses wsgi(pretty much all of them) were going to move to python 3.X without it.

That is the exact impression i got right down to "butt-hurt". I don't use quora myself, but I do find it annoying when people with blogs project their standards on someone else's creation. It's like a more articulate "GUYZ Y THE DOWN VOTEZ?

i don't see it as hidden. if you read the docs, they make it pretty clear what the limitations are on things like the datastore and why. The api's start from the assumption that you will need roflscale. It can be a pain in the ass, but it'

agreed. it's a nice shortcut for getting data into the system while building the system. but you still have to write UI's for the app. django != drupal.

while it's true that appengine by nature insists on optimization towards roflscale a lot earlier in development than what we devs would normally prefer, I think that the pricing model is designed for a different class of app than what most

that's the thing with gae, if you want to pretend you aren't going to use it and instead try to abstract away that fact, you are in for a world of pain. you either do gae, or not... no waffling.

python 3's wsgi support is what is enabling frameworks like pyramid and now django to finally move forward with python 3. that only happened like a couple of years ago.

I think buildout addresses the deployment problem better than virtualenv + fabric. Only "problem" is it's zope heritage and thus not cool enough for bloggers to use.
