HN frontpage traffic is not as high as you might think ... the websites that go down from it are probably just poorly built.

I don't like the KaiOS philosophy of "you can't write software for your device unless we like the idea". In order for mostly-dumb phone like that to be useful for me there are a few small things I'd need to sort out

I build my Emacs distribution, including packages, using Nix[1], which means that input hashes of all the package sources are fully pinned. This process is external to Emacs though. The Emacs internal managers all go towards the same HTTP(S

The type of codebase scaling Google does is very different from other companies. They have huge numbers of junior developers right out of university (those that Rob Pike, one of the main authors of Go, likes to claim aren't good enough

There's an indexed list of posts about Go's flaws here: https://github.com/ksimka/go-is-not-good In my opinion, don't use Go at all if you can avoid it - it may be acceptable for a tiny CLI project but a

What's an average person, though? We're keeping this aura of mysticism around customized computer setups (obviously also because there's commercial interests against them). I think many "average" people would have n

The Github repository for the kernel is a mirror of the actual kernel.org repository. The kernel does not use a Github-style workflow, either.

It'd be great if companies offered a "buy back your privacy" subscription model. For the services I really don't want to stop using (Twitter ...) I'd definitely be using that.
