I have an AMD Thinkpad (X13 AMD 2nd gen) and it's one of the most frustrating devices I've had in years. Linux support is superficially fine, but in continuous use lots of tiny, annoying incompatibilities (and sometimes pretty sig

Some things he writes in that thread - like the big tech companies not caring about politics - is so bafflingly far removed from reality (especially obvious for anyone who has worked at them) that it makes me wonder whether he's intent

No, unless something significantly changed there. There's another project like naersk which doesn't need to generate a "Cargo.nix" file.

We use naersk[0] for Rust projects in our Nix monorepo (for example [1]). It's pretty hands-off in terms of the Nix code needed (you don't need to pin hashes inside of the Nix code as long as you have a Cargo lockfile) and all the

Could be worse, could be Russian! Either way, you could take shortcuts like leaving out vowels (works pretty well in most languages and is even the default in some, e.g. in Arabic).

You're saying "it's not a fork, it just uses an earlier, modified version of the codebase". What is a fork if not that? I don't know how divergent it is, probably quite a lot at this point. The concepts should still

Ah, I've actually seen this before. Since it's written in Go, you might be able to pretty much copy&paste the Nixery layering strategy into it. I wouldn't mind!

That's what most users of nixery.dev (i.e. the public instance) do, afaict. Ad-hoc images for CI, and for debugging purposes.

They definitely can, there have been stories here before about e.g. blocking of far-right Mastodon instances.

I think Mastodon is even more dangerous than Twitter/FB in reinforcing filter bubbles. Consider: There are various federated servers, often with some shared interest/allegiance. The operators can disconnect you from other federate

The primary difference is that in Nix it's fairly easy to wrap arbitrary build systems, so you can inject third-party dependencies into your codebase without vendoring and adapting their build system (plus, through nixpkgs[0], the majo

Your best bet for monorepo building across a variety of languages is Nix. If money is no object you can also make do with Bazel.

I wouldn't state "makes no sense" about something like that. For example, in sci-fi terms, psychedelic molecules could be akin to a 'protomolecule' that attaches to self-replicating entities and attempts to induce ?
