We've now indexed over 4.4 million Google+ profiles. Some interesting results. We've been busy.

Thx for pointing this out. We drew a line in the sand to go live - as you know with dev that line is always a moving target open to intrepreation and opinion. Broke for now. But not broke for good.

No worries - we're Canadian and even OUR country didn't didn't make the cut Eh.

by taxonomyman 15y ago
We're working on improving the Country data. Long story. It has to do us using Avg country Lat/Longs and the unstructured data in G+ profiles.

by taxonomyman 15y ago
It's random in the sense that we let our crawlers just start at an arbitrary profile and stopped until we have about a million. Pretty random, thoughts?

by taxonomyman 15y ago
A lot of the location data is free text (ie. unstructured). Not easy to parse. Lat/Long more reliable, but for now, we're using AVG Lat/Long to determine country.Country data is a little skewed (for now).

Ah... good question.. Rank is based on followers. We were naive at thinking we'd index all G+ profiles so we added rank in. But, it's only a relative rank in relation to our data set. We do have Mark Zuckerberg and his rank is still tops in

Great point. It's there at the bottom, but we'll make it more visable..

Yes, crawling. Home brew. Stuff out there is either too complex, or too simple. To be fair, we like to build on our own - probably not a good thing sometimes..

by taxonomyman 15y ago
Thx! We're using a little bit of everything! From MySQL, to hashes to our own home brew inverted index code. We're upping the index numbers and adding a ton of cool things on Monday.
