By good rate like $60/mo? Canada is also bad. Data rates are 6x more expensive in US/Canada than Italy. 2x that if the UK or Germany.

Blame mobile carriers in the US for this. Data rates were very high for a long time and eventually texts went from $.10/each (receiving and sending) to “free” w a phone plan before most people had a phone that could install an app. We

Covid has opened a lot of eyes. When mortality is on the line in a job people start to think hey what does this really mean. Hoping the current and upcoming generations will make choices towards a better future.

Letting the fields go fallow to allow for rejuvenation rings like a very apt allegory to me. Breaking routines, finding out who you are outside of work is actually one of the most luxurious things one can do. It’s a great time for healing.

It is the full force of the company saying “we don’t perceive you as being performant anymore”. Even on the individual level changing someone’s perceptions takes double or triple the effort to establish them in the first place.

I had to scroll through a whole lot to get to the part that mentions wirecutter - the only one they really mentioned was webcams, with anecdotes about how that particular webcam they recommend isn't very good. Not much talk about why t

For now I've been using the NYT wirecutter folks. They do a good job posting their methodology and you can usually dig much further for what problems they found.

Calling the satanic panic rational is quite a statement. Nor a blip - it was a formative part of large amounts of the millennial generation, along with DARE, purity rings and the Christian Right legislating lessons into cartoons.

It’s a bit disheartening when you look at how many people deal with the numbness ever present in their lives by playing games that mete out little rewards in easily quantifiable bits. This is not what humans need, or, if we’re honest, want.

In the US American football only recently became available on streaming - it is currently $450 or $500 per season. You can go to a bar every week and have several drinks and a meal for that money. It’s a little crazy.
