I mentioned it in the post, but yeah, also not trivial. Polling /events solves some problems but introduces others. A mix of push (webhooks) and pull (/events) can also work, which is what I was referring to with the "thin cl

The problem with "n+1 after HTTP request for webhooks n completes" is that your throughput is very adversely impacted by this. Let's assume that a webhook takes 1s to process (usually much slower when you include network late

I understand it may not have been very clear. Though the point is that no one cares about delivery order, what they really care about is processing order. So it doesn't matter if you ensure delivery order if they process it out of orde

Author here. You obviously CAN guarantee ordering, it's just that you can't guarantee it as the sender, you need cooperation from the receiver. Additionally, putting them in a receive queue on the receiver doesn't solve the i

I completely agree, that was one of our main goals with Etebase (protocol behind EteSync). For whatever it's worth, we had an external analysis of the protocol done recently at EteSync. Though even before it, we (intentionally) only us

Shameless plug: www.svix.com/play/ Also gives you a fixed URL and is free, and there are quite a few other free tools out there.

That's not enforced centrally (or visible by the reviewer) so hard to trust it that everyone will remember having it. Though even without that, I'm not sure how it'll even mechanically work.

And there are so many tools for helping ingesting webhooks that are free (including the one that my company makes[1]). A new one pops on HN every week... 1: www.svix.com/play/

Hm... An interesting thought! What does it compare against though? Need to add more state to the CI? We kinda like the interface be part of the version control and having an audit chain that's part of the code.

One of my biggest pet peeves: tracking generated files in version control. The only exception is our generated OpenAPI spec, because we want people to be explicit about modifying the API, and have a CI task that verifies that the API and Op

They already do, in many ways. Specifically, they already mandate the type of power plug that electrical appliances must be sold with. I don't know where I stand on this ruling philosophically, but I'm looking forward to having ac

I couldn't agree more! I often tell the team something similar: if you struggle with ownership or getting some code to work, you can always just clone and get the first draft working. You'll still do better than the equivalent in

This is cool! We are always curious about interesting ways of using webhooks, (we do webhook sending as a service), and this is definitely an interesting one. Congrats on launching!

What I never understood about this debate is that surely these people realize that LeBron is 10x better than some other NBA players. Why can't the same apply to engineers? Personal anecdote: I've worked with 10x, 1x, 0x, -1x and -

It's an interesting idea to have a sort of a "what's up?" endpoint that is just basic text and tells you what's fresh. At least for static websites, it's quite easy to do.
