I think price-gouging laws could also have something to do with this. Suppliers have increased their prices in what is essentially protracted inflation from demand. But in most states retailers are not legally allowed to increase price tags

Does Apple allow anonymous reports/crypto payouts? There could be anti-money laundering issues to sort out, but perhaps this could incentivize individual actors to break ranks and leak vulnerabilities upstream.

There is a lot going on, and it definitely feels more like an experiment than design informed by all the relevant human disciplines. I am not sold on panels and snap in place. I would much prefer to see something like a zooming user interfa

Not in the US, but a friend of my sister was bitten by a fox while she was abroad in Mexico, it didn't look like anything bad, but her friend convinced her to go to the ER to get it checked, the wait there was long and she ended up lea

Great write-up, I haven't dug into understanding the whole code yet, but perhaps someone can answer this for me: can the code be made even simpler using Go's bignum: big.Int?

Never heard of Althea before, but I did some reading, and I must say this is the most promising last mile meshnet system I have seen implemented so far.

How about another layer before passing current into the shaped coils? 1. some sort of liquid crystal layer (transistor based), where all the coils are pre-drawn, only allowing layer 2 to conduct when low current goes through layer 1 2. onc

Great reading this, I just want to drop a line to say that I have been working to solve precisely this problem -- for gaming but also other applications -- at the root. I have been working on a paper on this, here is the pre-proposal I publ

Isn't knative exactly supposed to solve this problem by giving a portable Heroku-like dev experience?

I can't tell if this is a sarcastic comment, because this is exactly what the specs provide. You can parse it and get all that.

This is a good idea, but I feel like it would benefit by forgoing the "HTML" art layout, and being more similar to the actual periodic table, by organizing elements in groups on the X axis and in introduction year/version on

I think the fundamental is the description of software as an idea. It is very important to understand, because it helps explains that the essence/idea part of software writing will never be automated and that any repetitive part in sof

An easier way to reason about the modern web, and port this knowledge from and to native platforms at a minimal cognitive cost, is to think about a web application as consuming from an API or database layer which already enforces authorizat

I believe it is a bit too early to declare it a success. Can we exclude that it is not accelerating rising cost of living and economic inequality, and the general weakness of the middle class? Also, what is top-down imposed austerity with n

Where would you register all the votes and verify the counts? The blockchain would help secure that database from an actor targeting votes of people not likely to verify their votes.

Talking of PKI, Blockchains are actually a great use case to render PKI more secure [1]. It can help secure CAs' and Keybase is using it as well as a second factor [2]. All that stuff still need some more development obviously. We'

Apart from some justified points on how confusing origins can be, the author fundamentally misunderstands Web development. Not only do users want fast sites and multiple of them open, so the performance point bears little weight, but the au

The idea that a best practice should be usable without a pre-processor has sailed. The fastest people give up on that, the better Web development will be for it.
