I replaced the stereo in my ‘05 Tacoma with a new, touchscreen-with-CarPlay head unit. I hate not having a physical volume knob. I do love the modern features. But hunting for that volume up/down button for a maddening while driving an

I’ll be installing this tonight! Spotify on my Apple TV is my go-to for winding down before bed. I’ve always wanted what I call “video mute.”

I put myself in this very position with some cache expiration times. Almost everything in the server-side that is related to times for a particular client uses milliseconds. Of course, redis’s `SETEX` does not. It uses seconds. The data got

I mostly agree with you, but I did find some value in the quotation (paraphrased, because I’ve closed the article) “Focus on doing the right things rather than doing things right.”

I’ve worked in both “tech” and “tech-adjacent” roles over 20+ years. The tech-side of the equation often compensates better, the adjacent roles can have job security like you’d not believe, though it may be a bit boring. YMMV

Would a listserv be appropriate? Depends on your use case: synchronicity, volume of messages, etc.

Perhaps I missed it, but the single biggest reason that I moved away from SPAs (such as React) and back to server-side rendering of templates is avoiding having to model my data twice. That’s a lot of overhead. Granted, I’m in the B2B softw

If you're using Gradle + jcenter repository, it will fail. I ran into this when building a Flutter mobile app, relying on Gradle to fetch dependencies. There is more information here: https://blog.gradle.org/jcenter-shu

This is interesting, but the linked article doesn’t delve into the potential effects that decreasing gas prices might have on either the supply or demand sides, nor does it inform the reader about potential knock-on effects of such a move.

I happily use SQLite via `sqflite`, a Flutter library, to store and retrieve data for an offline-first mobile app. This is my first time really using it, and I’m quite pleased with the experience and the familiar feel of using SQL.

Restaurants commonly pay a commission of 10-25% already. They also expend through their staffing in terms of answering numerous calls (many robocalls in the case of DoorDash), managing to-go orders, etc.

I worry more about the added mass of the e-bikes in the case of a collision with a pedestrian, another cyclist, or a traditional motor vehicle. Potential speeds are relatively the same. I own and frequently ride e-bike, and am an advocate.

What’s the definition of “really working?” I once told a freelance client (hourly) that I solved most of the tough problems while I thought about things in the shower. On that project, very little of my time was spent coding. Client then sa
