As a developer at a media company, I know first hand, the effort required to bring streaming video across all the disparate platforms. Even if 50% of what is promised works out great, it will be a fantastic product for every media company.

Google Video was merged into Youtube Orkut was wildly successful in Brazil and India, until they stopped building it for Buzz and Plus Reader was hugely successful, which is why the outcry on its closing Chromebooks are doing great, atleast

No. But our eyeballs watching those paid ads on free broadcast TV are enabling payments + profit for the production of that content. The numbers may vary by broadcaster and program, but the business model is clear, or atleast was.
