Proprietary: "something that is used, produced, or marketed under exclusive legal right of the inventor or maker." The WebM trademarks and copyright are owned by Google. Yes you have a license to use WebM as it is today. But Google can make

Many providers of Linux and Java products indemnify their users e.g. RedHat, Novell.

It IS proprietary. Google owns WebM and unilaterally makes the decisions about the direction of the format. H.264 is a standard and driven by a standards committee and process comprising numerous companies.

It is not "patent-free". If it was I am sure Google would indemnify users from patent infringement lawsuits. Fact is that at least 12 organisations have already said that WebM infringes on their patents.

It is ludicrous for one patent holder of the H.264 patent pool to demand patent royalty rates far beyond the license rate for the entire pool. It was NEVER a negotiation.

I fail to see how it matters how long Google has owned Motorola. They are the ones making the decisions. And this isn't just about Motorola and Microsoft. This is about the principle of ALL contributors to a standard licensing their patents

Also we should point out that Google should NEVER be trusted. Their disgraceful behaviour in blackmailing Microsoft over H.264 FRAND patents is of huge concern to anyone who cares about standards. Companies should be encouraged to get toget

And now getting sued by Google over FRAND patents defined in the H.264 standard.

It has nothing to do with that. And everything to do with VP8/WebM being a proprietary, non standard at the time that the world consolidated on H.264. That and the fact that H.264 had hardware support when the iPods and Zunes were taking of

Exactly that Apple Island with their industry standard H.264 and AAC files. And Google with their proprietary WebM.

This was one of the most incoherent articles I've read for a while. Basically all he has said is that iCloud doesn't work and Amazon/Google does. But with no specifics or evidence to back it up. iCloud comprises quite a lot of parts e.g. ma

    1. Whether a product sells out or not means very little. It could be really popular. It could be bad sales forecasting. 2. The Nexus 7 is only reducing number of Kindle Fires from 14 to 12 million. Not that huge of an impact.

As I posted in the other thread. These companies (among others) use MySQL: Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, LinkedIn, Flickr, Amazon, Craigslist, eBay, Etsy, Google, Groupon, Ticketmaster, Yahoo, 37Signals, DHL, Dropbox, Evernote, UPS, Kayak, LastM

Nice shifting of the goalpost there. Let's add some more companies: 37Signals, DHL, Dropbox, Evernote, UPS, Kayak, LastMinute, Orbitz, Continental, Mint, Quora, Tumblr, Techcrunch, Slashdot, NYT, NBC, Reuters, Wotif, Zappos, Wikipedia, Yout

Your entire argument falls apart when you look at all of the companies that chose MySQL over PostgreSQL and are still using them today. Basically every major internet site today relies on MySQL.

And what about Amazon, Craigslist, eBay, Etsy, Google, Groupon, Ticketmaster, Yahoo etc. You think they are equally going to be okay with losing data ? Or do you want to try again.

    > MySQL is the storage platform for people who do not know about databases. Exactly. I mean seriously what do Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, LinkedIn, Flickr etc know about storing lots of data.

I would characterise your comment as FUD. And now you are questioning the licensing. There is NO evidence that MySQL has licensing problems otherwise we wouldn't have the Facebook, Twitter and Percona forks. It's as simple as that really.

That article is talking about focus follows mouse. Which I fail to see how is applicable for a touchscreen device which has no concept of focus.

Here we go again. Firstly, Apple didn't invent IP ownership, pioneer it or is the leader of it by any stretch. That award most likely goes to IBM. Secondly, it is a myth that Microsoft's 'investment' in Apple is what it kept it alive. That

You're completely warped view on life warrants serious psychiatric help. And surprised that you think defending patents is evil because almost every major IT company right now is doing that.

What has Oracle done to Java ? As a developer they've done nothing but deliver very welcome new features to the platform and add stability that Sun could never bring.
