Everything. It is all in one place, very simple to use, has process monitoring like Monit and well supported. Nobody uses what Apple ships by default. Homebrew or MacPorts and I have exactly the same setup as I have on my Linux server. Plus

Mac mini is hyper threaded so appears in the OS as 8-cores. The OSX Server edition starts at $999. Replace the two hard drives with two SSD ($200) and add 16GB RAM ($100). Now show me a Supermicro that will have two nodes in 1RU for equival

I am currently using a cluster of Mac Minis as a server platform. Some benefits: * Launchd is a massive improvement over the equivalent mess on Linux. This can't be understated if you are managing your own hardware. * You can develop on th

Actually it's far cheaper than even an equivalent Supermicro solution let alone HP/Dell etc. You are getting at minimum 2 Mac Minis in 1RU which as of today could be a 8 core Core i7 / Dual SSDs / 16GB RAM. Plus if you want to upgrade them

There is nothing you can do to prevent scraping especially with tools like PhantomJS which use exactly the same engine as in your browser. The ONLY way is to as suggested throttle based on IP address and X-Forwarded For.

Yep. The future isn't in cable. It's in FTTH/FTTN like what is happening in Australia right now. Which means any opportunity for disruption are going to come from platforms like Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Vimeo, YouTube, CollegeHumor etc.

Okay so three things. Firstly I don't think you understand the business you are trying to disrupt. YOU may not watch particular channels e.g. Fox but others do and they help to subsidise the unprofitable channels. So trying to break apart t

Firstly, I HATE that UI. It's slow, clunky and cluttered. Secondly, you have deliberately some of the most popular people on Google+. In particular Guy Kawasaki. It's not representative of a typical user.

No. But all new development isn't being done on it. My point is that stories like this are becoming the new norm especially with companies like 10gen and Datastax wining and dining CIO/GMs pretty hard. MongoDB in particular is getting a (mi

NoSQL databases are becoming very common place now and there are a lot more companies and hosted providers than there used to be. So naturally you are going to see more stories of people switching away from traditional SQL databases. I work

Why I use Eclipse ? It has much, much better plugin support e.g. AWS, Google CodePro. If you use the slightly older version then it is an order of magnitude faster than IntelliJ and generally works much nicer on OSX. It is also less clutter

Well it would be a server side check. But even a rudimentary IP address check would be fine to ensure one connection at a time. It is all a bit odd I have to admit.

Don't. You are much better off hiring people than having a cofounder. Because it's great when things are going well. But when they aren't you aren't going to be motivated AT ALL to work on YOUR idea. Cofounders work better when you both com
