Yeah, it's a new parameter, based on exactly this common use case.

ProxyJump is slightly preferred in modern SSH. Does what you're doing, but with simpler syntax. Take a look.

I use Firefox Focus, which includes an ad blocker that can be enabled for Safari integration. It works pretty well for me, but then, I don't generally surf on my phone and only use Safari when I have clicked a link from messages or som

And it's super readable too. Very concise but descriptive. The author has a friendly tone and the code is easy to follow, even if you're not familiar with javascript syntax. Good fun!

I think that's a fair point. The world of "apps" has certainly changed the meaning and usefulness of search. There's no exploring and random discovery when you're in the walled garden, unlike what it used to be like

Hey - thanks for giving a name for this and the link to Wikipedia. I know it's not a "new" idea, but a faceted search organized and usable broadly across the www would be really useful.

It's not "large" UI changes that are needed. (I mean, they are needed, the current google UI for most of their products sucks). But it's small improvements that make the big difference. A small user interface element add

I think there's a market for sites that have optimized search around a specific category of information. For example, imagine you had a hybrid directory+search model, where you could drill down into the directory: Top -> Programmi

I think the utility of generic search engines is coming to an end. Services like Google, Bing and DDG are numbered in usefulness. Instead, I am guessing (maybe hoping) that we see a return of the moderated directories, like Yahoo or DMOZ of

I agree, as others have said in this post/thread, advertising seems to be at least some of the cause of the problem. But it doesn't seem any other economic model works, sadly. I'm curious about your comment about NPR and BBC.

I wish I had something insightful to say, but this is so spot on. You have put to words something that I have been struggling finding words for. I wish we could all "see" this issue and somehow get out of the weird algorithms that

What percentage of CS graduates go onto become computer scientists? Seems like vast majority of CS degree holders aren't practicing "pure" computer science, as you would seemingly hope.

Yes, this. The problem with systemd isn't systemd. It's that it never really replaced the other "legacy" parts effectively. Networking is a fantastic example. I'd be OK if there was one-definitive-place to configure

Can vouch. My company did this one year. It was a fun idea and we all appreciated it. A few folks even put together some silly robot crawlers for around the office.

Came here to reminisce about xroach. Back in the day, it wasn't uncommon that the security configuration of an X workstation was open to external windows/display. e.g. you could run a program on your system, but target your neighb

If we can get some new tools for the fight against cancer in the next few decades, this will be just so huge. It feels like we're right on the edge of this possibility. Now if we can just avoid the red tape along the way.

Yes, it's a clever but unfortunately click-bait title. I was duped to reading the article (which is very short too, not very much meat). The core idea of the article is interesting, but very shallow coverage, somewhat even obvious.
