I'm not condoning the behaviour but neither is it a pathology of a 'fucked up small community'. Welsh nationalists burned down english-owned holiday homes in the 80's and 90's "in response to the housing crisis

The missing step can be that in a large company HR needs to assign a grade/job type to the role before they advertise it and these are standardised typically with respect to both education qualification and years of experience. The com

Generally for Intel I see the benefits as: - Part of a roadmap to RISC-V to eventually lure Arm customers uncomfortable with the Nvidia bid for Arm - Generally hitting Arm at the lower end by giving RISC-V more credibility in the short term

The economics of FOSS is not a solved problem and the author deserves kudos here for asking questions that I don't see asked anywhere else. The examples chosen are maybe not the most current, and there are counterexamples especially in

> Similarly with colonialism - that's something that is only possible once your society is already rich and powerful enough to go around and dominate others. I disagree. The European colonial period started in the 15th Century[1]. I

Another route is to lobby those projects to adopt an open governance model. This effectively puts the management of the project at arm's length from the corporate parent. It's a trade-off for them to get more engagement vs rescind

Likewise FLStudio - thanks to its lifetime license model I have been using it as a paid license DAW for more than 15 years. It has a very active and collaborative user base especially for hip hop and indie game music.

I found that playing Rock, Paper, Scissors against an AI opponent demonstrated at least to me that I was not even able to make what I thought were random choices. The only way I could hold the AI to a draw was by using an external source of

Do hobbies have to be successful? IMHO the time is for restoring your sense of well-being. There are loads of happy (but terrible) amateur artists, musicians, dancers, DJs, woodworkers, model-makers, novelists, photographers, Wordpress webs

It's ironic that several of the criticisms here are for huge lists of 'engraving' options in hidden menus in Sibelius. Engraving is the equivalent of typesetting (but music obviously doesn't have moveable type). I used a

My dad was in a similar situation when he retired from chemistry research. He tried a bunch of things, some of which stuck, some of which didn't but still passed the time and got him into outside interactions. In no particular order so

The focus here is on laptops. On mainstream commodity desktop hardware, Windows 10 long term support is a lot better than this article suggests. I just threw out a thirteen year old Xeon system (Dell Precision) that had been my daily (updat

Absolutely agree. My first job out of college was working for a company that was a minor sponsor of the Tyrell P34. We briefly had one of the cars in reception.

FLStudio has a great community and Image-Line deserve kudos for their "lifetime" license model. I used it extensively for a few years and found it solid and productive. It's maybe closer to Ableton than Cubase.

I disagree with this. In my experience as a generalist, most hirers are like customers in a tool store. They're looking for a tool to do a thing. Trying to interest them in a Swiss Army Knife is a waste of time. If they're shoppin
