I had a similar one where a billing mistake had happened in a system and the other devs were trying to find out how to determine all of the bad values. I asked if they had simply looked at the top N that could fit on their screen sorted by

The "format string" capabilities of common lisp are quite advanced. https://gigamonkeys.com/book/a-few-format-recipes is a fun overview.

I think I just mentally had this idea shifted up about 10-15 mph. I'd expected 55 to be the sweet spot, for some reason.

I mean, we are comparing 6-8 to effectively infinite? Question then comes into just how much is lost by being outside of the sweet spot for an engine. Which, I agree that I would not have thought it would be that big of a deal. Just goin

Ah, totally fair in that this particular transmission is better than the belt driven CVT stuff. I had thought they were still a bit worse than other transmissions, but it looks like if they are, it is on the order of 1% or so. Is fascinati

This happened as I was taking a brief dive on my networking stack. Been seeing "iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: Unhandled alg: 0x71b " in my syslog spamming heavily. Thought I somehow really screwed things up to have internet flat out not

I'm not sure I understand the question? You get the engine to hit its sweet spot and to hold it there. That gain outweighs the loss from the new transmission. This would be similar to hitting the optimal torque point. The idea there

My understanding is that the overall system is more efficient. It is only the transmission that is less so. The videos online that look at various CVT systems is truly an amazing resource that I regret not having when I was younger. :D

This addresses the signalling to the people behind you problem. You still should have the foot nearer the brake so that you can fully stop, if you need to do so rapidly. Emergency brake systems probably help a lot with this problem, of cou

I took it to be people that are far more aggressive with the gas pedal than they really need to be. That is, it was more the heavy foot than it was letting off to brake. Regardless, your point stands. People that have gotten used to not d

I think it is safe to say that 10-15 hours of cardio a week is far far more than most people get. Hick, 6-10 hours of exercise a week is almost certainly multiples of what most people do. :D But, yeah, I was meaning volume as well as cert

Hard not to agree with the general idea. But also hard to ignore all of the terrible experiences I've had with systems where everything was a unique type. In general, I think this largely falls when you have code that wants to just mo

Even CVTs will rev the engine if you floor it, no? They typically allow for wanting to be in a few sweet spots. I prefer to keep it near the max efficiency speed. That said, my wife is a bit more aggressive and spends more time in the ma

This is less a hybrid thing and more a new transmission thing. It, of course, isn't free. The efficiency of a CVT is a good 10-20 percent lower than previous transmissions. That said, currently, the win from keeping the engine at ei

Reminds me of a video I saw recently that pointed out the absurd number of calories professional athletes burn. Upshot of that video was that you almost certainly can run to lose weight. Just don't expect it to be an easy task. At a

Point 4 really resonates with me. And it often lends itself with the idea of a budget. Both in terms of speed and memory. How much memory do you have at a given spot of the application? How much time? Can you meaningfully make use of a

Amusingly (to me, at least), I took a stab a long time ago to show how a visitor could get you most of this. As I state in the post, I make no claim that this is as convenient or powerful. It does do what you basically describe, though.

Often logging backends have a sampling rate to take care of this for you. As it is almost certainly better to setup a buffer in your logging layer and deal with this there, than to try and do this everywhere in your code.

I am not entirely sure I disagree. I think context is often a big factor in semantics, though? The problem with interfaces is often that people think they do all of the work by themselves. But, that is only true within the context of how

I want to give kudos to the OP for seeing that infrastructure matters. The fanciest syphon system in the world doesn't matter if you don't have a way to get water to and from it. (For the toilette example.) I'm seeing simil

Python is a funny one to include there, as you should be able to just `help(foo)` to get the documentation. You can flat out run `help()` to get an interactive help session.

In total car sells, or just in EVs? Because a quick search online shows each of those still sold considerably more than Tesla. :(
