Note that this is a definition of majority/minority, not a theorem proved about them. It's indeed true that by definition, there are no majorities for finite sets.

The other way around is already implied by the previous property. Maybe it helps to consider finite sets. A finite set should clearly a minority, and the union of two finite sets, though bigger, is still finite; similarly, the intersection

It's not only that Cyrillic is designed specifically for Slavic languages, but also that the general tradition around Cyrillic is to make up new letters when adapting it to a new language, as oppposed to the Latin alphabet where the tw

No, they only get a graph of the volume of each slice. They have to do this many times and compute something like a Radon transform (computed tomography) to reconstruct the shape.

"16 stops" means a ratio of 2^16, so in this case a 16-stop filter is a filter that allows 1/2^16 = 0.0015% of the light through. This is presumably "neutral density" that blocks all colours of light equally and has

In the current orthography, a single consonant causes the previous vowel to be read as long, and this holds for `ß`, which is considered in the current orthography to be a single letter (though it was historically a ligature). Changing `ß`

I think that's what grandparent is getting at. Better to make use of the social system by working little or not at all, now, while it's still paying out, than to contribute now and not get any pension later.

I think avoiding coalitions was a side effect rather than a design principle: doesn't FPTP predate political parties in the Commons?

A few months ago people were talking about a 100-seat majority for the Tories. Now they have no majority at all: they'll need to get every member of their party plus a few from the DUP to agree to any controversial thing they want to p

I'm not sure I follow. American politics isn't two ideologies, but it does have ideologies. Is it better to bundle up these dozens of ideologies and interests into two parties than to have ideologically driven parties?

A seat can be secure at 55% just as it can be at 95%. Packing and cracking both tend to yield secure seats - if nobody could confidently predict who would win the seats, how would it be gerrymandering?

Gerrymandering is not in general illegal. As you say, districts are routinely redrawn - but in a way which results in gerrymandering! To fix it requires that the districts be redrawn fairly , and that's a tougher fix (but a significan

Sure. But since this is a negotiation , you probably have to make some choices. Should you press on exercise dates, or on number of shares? If both of these are worth zero in your calculus, you have no means to assess.
