I think the pay is terrible because this type of work is now mostly being done in parts of the world where labour costs are lower than the US. For example, I was working with a device that came with a SoC from a large American/global S

An interesting number would be how many GCM/APN devices are registered in the matrix.org sygnal server. All of the Matrix/Riot users I know use private, non-federated home servers, but still rely on the project's Sygnal serve

The cases aren't meant to be opened. I followed some guides on YouTube. Most require using a saw and really sharp knife.

I've tried rebuilding the battery for an x220 twice and both times the battery case ended up too damaged to be used. I'm about to fork over $100+ for my forth battery for this machine.

I'm going to keep using mine until my place of work forces me off. It's such a nice device and there is no app I need that doesn't work on it.

I have a single non-federated synapse server with 10 users and 25 client devices, and the python process is using 135MB (RES in top). Load average is 0.00. There's 2 main rooms and probably around 10 chats. The homeserver.db is 26M

Yes, ice is by far the worst part. You have to pick your route to avoid it. I'm lucky enough to have a mostly cleared or packed paths in my neighborhood.

I've never worn any kind of mask. I grew up in this weather, so maybe I'm used to. I was just in the Caribbean for a holiday. I tried running in +27 C weather with 70% humidity and I felt like I was suffocating.

Running in the cold is great. I run outside until it gets below -20 deg C. Some thermal tights and a few layers on top is all you need. It took me quite a few years to finally just give it a try and now I actually prefer running in the win
