Why must every tech job be SpaceX or Amazon or Boeing? No, really. Most tech jobs are not super sexy, and I’m a little irritated that the prevailing opinion seems to be one of looking down your nose at every tech job that isn’t “prestigious

There’s definitely a fine line, but let’s be real, Facebook was never really about fine lines and nuance.

I know a lot of inexperienced devs who run things as root to try to fix problems. It’s the first thing some of them do (after restarting). I think it’s a lack of awareness due to missing knowledge. When you don’t know much about how your sy

I beg to differ [1]. I know people at Facebook, and from what I’ve heard, people just kind of... do stuff; there’s very little organization. Maybe that’s not true anymore, though. [1] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=100

I’m confused. By “this whole thing” I mean “the James Damore nonsense” and “political nonsense in general”. It is super hecka easy to just not talk about politics at work. For decades, people went to work and didn’t talk about religion, sex

I agree with all of this, and I can’t help but ask: when did we start ignoring people’s environment and their circumstances? I have tens of thousands of dollars of student loan debt (my monthly payment is basically a mortgage payment) and I

There’s a baby in the house where I live. When he wakes up and is fussy, you can absolutely hear him throughout most of the house. If you’re in the kitchen it helps to have a monitor, just for the distance. Otherwise, do baby monitors help

I somewhat hate winter, but I like seasons; they give a nice tempo to life. Personally, I’d rather have snow than earthquakes, wildfires, mudslides, tornadoes, and hurricanes, which the rest of the country gets some combination of. Michigan

Nothing quite as urban as grapefruit water and side parts, right? ;) I haven’t caught up on Silicon Valley, but I do hope this makes it in. I live in a rather “urban” city and I’m sorry, but other than the zip code, there is nothing urban a
