This raises an interesting question: is there a way to perfectly insure yourself? Or rather, a company that you pay to insure you for everything? My understanding of insurance is that if there's say 1/100 chance of some event cost

I really hate that it's called "cold calling" or "cold emailing." Can't we agree to call it what it is -- spam? As for the question, spam definitely works.

All social problems stem from the fact that people believe it possible to be superior to one another. Once you get rid of this possibility, social problems, stemming from the "superiority problem" disappear. Utopia ensues.

I agree with you, but (most) people don't start off homeless in life, so what factor(s) make people homeless? I bet one of the top ones are health reasons.

I wonder if better/more accessible health care would eliminate homeless as a side effect. It seems much of the homeless in Boston, anyway is mental health/health related. I doubt anyone will say that what Utah did here is bad , b

Visual Studio Team Services is a pretty all-in-one solution. The only thing I'd like it to have a vastly simpler non-technical view. Something like Trello, as a front-end. They try to do this but imo it's not very effective. VSTS

Sure, but it's a chicken and egg problem, unfortunately. Besides, there are other cheap cities that are way cheaper that have software jobs -- Salt Lake City, Dallas, Nashville, etc. It's not adtech, but hey...

I completely agree with the sentiment, but isn't your own comment being dishonest? There's plenty of land in the United States, and plenty of cities that have hardly been met with the "hoarding" you mention. That being s

Curious: if anyone thinks it is bad for Google to give the police information, do you think it's bad for Google to have the information in the first place? Another way to think about this is: when (not if, but when ) Google gives a

I don't think this conversation will be productive. Slavery is a completely different phenomenon than all of what you mentioned. I encourage you to go read up on this. You can start with the The New Jim Crow, by Michelle Alexander.

The goal is not to change the outcome, the goal is to remove bias. If the outcome is the same under perfect anonymity, then so be it.

The answer is obvious: it's bias. I'll never forget the day I removed my picture from my LinkedIn profile and the amount of random spam I received increase substantially. People don't like the answer, but there's only on

I find this kind of learned helplessness to be fascinating. Do you think big companies need apologists? Do you think there would be more or less innovation with more smaller firms?

I'd love to know the history of the (misleading) unemployment indicator. I feel that the true indicator of employment should be very simple: the amount of people who have full time jobs divided by the amount of people, period. The amou

I wonder how much coffee plays into this. I've yet to meet someone who sleeps consistently more than 8 hours per night who feels the need to drink coffee. edit: 8 quality hours of sleep, e.g. you wake up and you're not tired.
