For those readers who are skeptical whether this curriculum is really in widespread use, it definitely still is. I have young kids and before listening to this podcast, my wife and I spent a bunch of time last Fall looking at schools for ou

I wish there were some publicly available numbers to analyze here, but it seems likely that YC's late stage funds have lost a lot of money (on paper) doing late-stage investments at sky-high valuations over the years leading up to 2022

I don't think that'd be accurate - YC is exiting the business of late-stage investing, and that's the main news. It sounds like they had 17 people who were working on that part of the company who they laid off as part of this

We've replaced most of Zulip's Python linters with Ruff, and it's hard to understate how big of a difference it makes for linters to be lightning fast. Ruff has essentially all the features of major Python linters (pyflakes,

I do think universities should work hard to communicate with their PhD applicants and students about their job prospects. Among my friends who did their PhD at MIT, which was often one of the top-3 schools for their field, most of them who

I think this article really misunderstands the structure of academia. The paper looks to have done a bunch of data collection, which is great; but the results could be predicted without collecting any data at all. Structurally, if the avera

My personal test for whether an open source company encourages self-hosting is whether any plans/pricing page advertises "Self hosting" in a parallel/equal way to how they advertise commercial offerings.
