CheckPoint firewalls do DPI (Deep Packet Inspection). i would imagine that to make sense of a packet purportedly carrying a piece of a video stream you'd need to perform operations amounting to decoding the stream.

Yes, it reduces complexity considerably, but nearly all big systems are already built this way and are still very complex. complexity is a function of interactions. multiple processes won't do much for you if every one communicates
