The best sovereign tech fund would be a robust commitment to 'public money, public code'. To think how many sponsored features in LibreOffice, GIMP, Nextcloud,... could be paid for by the money that the governments of the world ar

That's actually correct: https://awsm-tools.com/keyboard-layout?form%5Bfrom%5D=dvorak... Impressive. This could legitimately have been tricky a puzzle on some Easter egg hunt, even for nerds.

Would be interesting how they work technically. The linked pdf mentions an EMV chip, which I assume is some sort of TEE. Other than creating recipient-specific one-time vouchers online, I can't think of a way to do offline payments wit

I'm on a similar page. I try to set things up so that as many things as possible are regular files in my folder structure, which I then sync across devices. In my experience those are the only files I can rely on being able to retrieve

Sounds like you're not using something like Nextcloud (which should cover all your bases it seems). Any particular reason, any experiences you want to share?

Do you know how it works in other places where planes get built, eg Europe, Brazil? The incumbents on both sides will always tell you that there's no other way things could be done. Looking at how they get done elsewhere seems like a g

We've had markets for all sorts of domestic help for centuries before we had computers. Perhaps more relatable, think about how your parents might have found such help.

Ah ok, sounds like a smarter way to do it. How hackable would you say is it, eg to register your own NFC chips? It seems like a nice platform.

CDs degrade pretty fast. I know people with CD collections that are basically unplayable now. And the typical plastic cases don't even make for nice shelf deco like books or paper-based vinyl cases.

We do have stuff like that, here's an example for kids: https://tonies.com They seem quite well made, if not exactly cheap. I believe there's also a way to store your own mp3's, but I don't know how open the

You can model multiple-hop dependencies as a Markov chain by just blowing up the state space as a Cartesian product. Not that that would necessarily make sense in practice, but in theory Markov chains have enormous expressive power.
