> Some solutions are E2E encrypted. Which ones do you mean? With Tailscale, the data channel runs over WireGuard, so it's encrypted between clients but the keys are exchanged over the control plane without end-to-end authentication,

If I wanted to dump raw JS data structures as text the most straightforward way I can think of is `JSON.stringify` and `JSON.parse`. No need to roll your own S-expression parser.

rnix-lsp is a language server for Nix that provides go to definition. I'm using it with the "Nix IDE" extension in VS Code. It doesn't handle imports though afaict, so it's only useful for local definitions.

These are amazing! I just hope Google won't pull the plug on this viewer since the images are hosted on gstatic.com.

Like I said, I don't know the standards, so I don't know the authors' intentions. But there are actually specialized devices which do nothing but generate TOTP tokens, so that seems to be a use case. (The keys don't have

I'm not an expert in authentication but afaik TOTP (and HOTP) work completely offline. That means you could store your keys on a device that doesn't have internet access. On that device you can do whatever you want. Some TOTP apps

My email provider limits the amount of aliases I can register with them but they let me have a catchall and Sieve filters. So I wrote a script that generates "normal-looking" email aliases, then builds a Sieve filter out of that.

I disagree. This article is about the authors thoughts and experiences related to privacy and working in the information sector. It's not primarily about email. Criticizing the title is fair I think.

Slightly off-topic but by "can't really be packaged for re-distribution in any useful way" did you mean binary packages? Because there are build systems/package managers that let you easily build a package with minor twe

If I'm not mistaken, that's basically how shell completions work in Nix. At least for fish. Package derivations can include completion scripts at a special location. Users can override the provided completions either in their shel

The storytelling of Celeste is great! You build quite a connection to the characters when you grind through levels for hours... And I'm pretty sure I cried at the end.

It would be great in general if Android had more flexible APIs for implementing network filtering/VPNs. Perhaps this could be solved by some kind of app that registers a VPN service and exposes an API over some IPC mechanism so that ot

That kinda makes me think if it would be possible to write a tool that patches these cheat sheets into man pages that don't yet have an EXAMPLES section.

Some languages and build systems also allow you to set constants from compiler flags (Go for example). Other systems make the entire build configuration an executable program (Gradle).

"Independently usable" does not have to mean "totally independent". The libraries could be related to the same product using the same infrastructure.

Something else that doesn't seem to get a lot of attention in terminal UI is screen reader accessibility. I'm not a regular screen reader user but I've tried a few TUI programs in GNOME Terminal with Orca and it was a mixed b

Game engines (at least the lightweight ones) seem good for cross-platform graphical apps in general but the idea of redrawing a static GUI at 30 FPS just sounds too inefficient to me.
