Kobo makes the best linux-based readers, but they're somewhat more expensive (I have a Libra 2 and a Sage, my only complaint is lack of a good web browser). Onyx Boox has some nice android readers (I have a Poke 3 that I took everywher

My cats only chew hard things like kibble, but never chew their wet food, and if given meat or fish, they tear and swallow without chewing.

Cats don't really chew much anyway. If sabre-tooths have a rough tongue like other cats, they can probably scour flesh off bones with that with little need to work over the meat with their teeth.

Civilization refers to cities, not literature. Urban societies need writing and complex social rules to survive, but it's not as if those things can't or haven't arisen in other types of human societies.

American labs are also funded by the US government. Are they equivalent to the US state? Do Chinese and US labs/researchers exist solely in the international sphere, without any domestic concerns or individual aspirations? The Chinese

Do American companies think about the "financial politics" of their decisions? I somehow really doubt it. Government takes sides and sometimes applies leverage to get companies to do what they want, but that's something separ

Talking about resolution is pointless without mentioning screen size and display tech. PPI is better, but doesn't always work well comparing between technologies.

I was recently skimming through some 20-30 old books about Information Retrieval ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_retrieval ), and it was immediately quite striking to me that LLMs are the culmination of the i

European politicians are all about the war, champing at the bit to escalate, expanding militaries and reordering their economies around the MIC. As for insane MAGA and Euro-right, just go read any of them, they are all like that.

Hitting the enemy where it hurts. It's much more effective to hurt Russian morale by making big explosions and petrol rain from striking a refinery or stopping/delaying shipments to the front line than by shutting down a center wh

Those factories are outside of Ukraine, in Europe. A lot of people (both pro- and anti- Russia) seem to be hoping that Russia will attack Europe to stop Ukrainian drone attacks.

If it can be made comfortable and cheap enough, this could be useful as an interface for AR glasses. The tongue is very sensitive and dextrous, and I imagine that even swipe typing with this kind of touchpad is probably feasible.

I know that it was due to price fixing, but the cartelisation of many industries and lack of any serious anti-trust enforcement (or any other kind of white-collar enforcement) are major factors impacting the economy. A 3 million dollar fine

You said: "Nobody "creates" population centers." That's demonstrably false, population centers are created all the time. The fact that populations don't spontaneously appear is irrelevant.

The US still somewhat has a similar distinction with public and private colleges. Private vs public funding rather than private vs public admission .

Yes, the people come from other places. The "population center" is very often made by people with intention though. The global population is still rising, so conjecture about the effect of cities on fertility rates is irrelevant.

Leah Neukirchen's lr and xe are very nice as a find and xargs replacement (although lr's test flag is way too complex). lr *.file | xe -s ' ... ' is a really great pattern for iterative scripting and hard to get wrong.
