I’m not a serverless expert. Consider opening an issue with your proposal, or even better a merge request against the serverless functionality in GitLab that is already in master.

What we now shipped is a Minimal Viable Change (MVC). I suspected that serverless wasn’t ideal for all use-cases but I couldn’t articulate this until I read this paper. We have taken no steps to overcome these problems, I think we’re likely

Very interesting. I wasn’t aware that with S3 select [0] you can select columns by using SQL on a zipped file stored in s3. [0] https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/s3-glacier-select/

I loved the article https://arxiv.org/pdf/1812.03651.pdf It mentions two temporary bottlenecks: 1. Functions can run only for 15 minutes and experience cold-starts. 2. You can't use specialized hardware like GPUs.

1. I'm not sure and will ask. 2. It might be that this wasn't supported yet in the Helm chart at that time, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the feedback. 1. Yes, you have to restore a backup on exactly the same version of GitLab and then upgrade that version. If you restore it to a different version the database scheme isn't correct. 2. You can restore a GitLab

Please also note that you don't have to install GitLab itself on Kubernetes in order to add a Kubernetes cluster to your projects or groups. We updated the docs yesterday to prevent confusion about this https://gitlab.com&#x

Really excited to announce this today during KubeCon. It was a really positive experience working with TriggerMesh founder Sebastien Goasguen and the rest of the team. They implemented Knative into GitLab really fast.

Yes, this is about live coding in the web IDE and I listed some technologies to look at in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/51116#note_12...

I wonder what technology Repl.it is using for the multiplayer. VS code has a live coding plugin, is this what is used? Disclosure: I’m the CEO of GitLab and we’re looking at live coding ourselves as well.

Please note that while Crossplane uses the Kubernetes API the actual server is separate from Kubernetes. This way you can use Crossplane to provision a Kubernetes cluster on the cloud of your choice. See https://news.ycombinator.

I think the unique value of Vault is not that it can change the locks so that old keys no longer work. For this it needs to understand how to reset keys on for example every database [0]. I don't think Sops does that. I think there is

Indeed, after getting next to transit the next step will be allowing more remote work, until companies are all remote.

I very much agree that you want to work at a company that embraced remote working instead of one that reluctantly agreed to it. This is much easier in a company that is 100% remote. The OP suggests using the word distributed company. I note

Income as in revenue is steady. Cash flow has more variance since people pay for GitLab one or more years upfront. On average we have negative cash flow since we're investing the money we raised in growth by doubling incremental annual
