What's an example of a state of the art platform? If I have used one I didn't realise it was good (and although I do use one of these platforms on a daily basis, it is old, eclipse based). The browser based ones also drive you cra

Low Code / BPM / Doodleware solutions are always the pits. Instead of letting you write code, we will give you either a half arsed UI (always Eclipse based) that spits out a million lines of horrific XML, or else they will give yo

I dont like the way the breadcrumbs work (do people still use the term breadcrumb? I'm old) and I've got this one repo that is always on the 2nd page of the list. That's my gripes about gitlab. I reckon it's a great prod

This is loads of fun against batteries included web frameworks like rail, grails, play framework and so on. Not sure about now, but a few years ago basically all of them were susceptible to this and XXE and it was extremely difficult to dis

I had a similar job to this when I was a grad. I got given an IDE that was written in korn shell to maintain. Not as mission critical as this sounds, but was the only way to edit, compile, link and deploy around 6000 COBOL programs that mad

Not to mention the nightmare of ruby versions and packages. I quite like the language by my biggest drawback to using ruby for anything is versioning and packages.

PEXA have pointed this out in great expensive detail with conveyancers. Every week there's a $300k theft of house sale settlements, always because some hacker has gained control of the settlement party's account. I doubt medical p

No, I meant in the context of server to server comms, as well as end user authn/authz. I would say that jwt is becoming the standard for s2s. I’ve personally worked with a dozen or so corporate APIs that use it and basically all the M

Everybody is doing it (at least where I'm from). There's good framework/vendor support for OAuth 2 and JWT breaks the nexus between the services and the magic auth server that must be called on each and every request. Even wi

The thing I loved about these challenges, aside from extracting the 90s hip hop references from the ciphertext, was getting back to computing primitives. I spend so much time in my day job dealing with high level abstractions and objects

My company took over production support of an ESB from another company for a client a couple of years ago. The worker nodes had about 100 JVMs running on it and its resting Load Avg was around 30. This on a 2 CPU RHEL vm. Out of morbid curi

One place I worked, they processed and paid payroll twice one month because someone dropped the files again and the ESB dutifully picked them up and sent them. That was a $6m mistake, took them years to work out how to reclaim the money fro

This article is generalised rubbish. That's not to say there's a shortage of badly managed, over spending IT projects in Australia (either public or private) but I doubt it's worse here than UK, US, Denmark or where ever else
