I think this is really understated. After developing a facial twitch and realizing I was consuming more than 1000 mg of caffeine a day, I switched to decaf once the particular project was over. No one told me it's physically addictive

It is a common misconception that Mormons are not allowed to consume caffeine, the limitation is actually on "hot drinks," which is interpreted as having meant tea and coffee specifically in the time it was written down. They stil

99% of everyone who's just a consumer, I'd guess. Probably the only time people change over is when there's a DNS block on something from their ISP (work, school, commonly do that).

That's my wife's experience, teaching at a smaller state college. They offer a math course so remedial that it's not allowed to count as hours toward graduation (it does of course count toward full-time status). There's

I bet it'll still manage to serve ad pages instead of NXDOMAIN, though. Actually that's what will get them to patch up.

Friend in college died of some super fast cancer at 21. Navy cadet, high speed, PT superstar. We don't like to think of it that way but it's often just a roll of the dice. Some cosmic ray flips a bit and the immune system was taki

Thanks for the uploads! I will check today but I believe I've got hardcopy of the datasheets/appnotes you have -- Burgess also grouped design docs into binders, so I have his originals. It's a habit I started carrying over to

Read one of his other posts, no family history, no tobacco use, not a heavy drinker. Live every day, folks. That promise of finally getting to do what you want after you retire is cheap and hollow.

Same, we had steam tunnels that you could get into if you were careful -- both not to get caught and not to get burned. Mechanical rooms that were often unlocked. Weird spots between buildings where additions were made.

I came across the R65F11 I have from Burgess Macneal, who was using FORTH in the early 1980s to build a digitally controlled audio mastering equalizer. For various reasons it never became a commercial product, but he'd saved all of his

I keep wanting to do a project in FORTH and even have started a couple, but always end up punting and going to something else (usually assembly, they're vintage computer projects). I do have a Rockwell R65F11 FORTH microcontroller-on-a

Yeah, this is usually the kind of thing I end up implementing on a first pass for something where I don't want to just use a library (usually "for fun" hacking projects).

Cool! DSL replaced LNX-BBC for me some time in 2005. Glad to see development has resumed. In a similar vein, I think there's a Slackware-based release of Slax again! (posting this from a ThinkPad T61 running Slackware 15)

Yeah I don't know how we're supposed to have good faith conversations about nontrivial issues if we as a society can't accept that sometimes valid arguments about an issue run counter to personal politics.

Not for me personally. I already have too much to be doing to waste my time going to court. Plus, we all know what eBay does to people who upset them: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/ebay-inc-pay-3-million-co...

I didn't realize it's required for mobile banking, I don't use it. I can see why that would've made people complacent about it. Ironic about the first step in resolving KYC ID leakage being acquiring more KYC ID images..

I do when I can. For AT&T I was able to just go to the store and do it. For eBay, we had to acquiesce as they were holding sales payouts hostage.

From an absolute "can this be correlated?" perspective, sure. From a "is this data easily mine-able" or "if someone gets this data, will I care?" perspective, not so much.

Yeah I carried my vaccine card for a while, I never had to get a test of any sort for entry, but did have to get my temperature taken a bunch.
