I've never understood that confusion, it's nonsense. Start doesn't mean "start your computer", you don't click it to start your computer, so it very obviously means "start doing something". "Shut down" falls under "something" http://sysop0

I feel like I must be missing something, although I suppose all good paradoxes give you that feeling. If it's heads, she's asked once (Monday) what it was, if tails, she's asked twice (Monday and Tuesday). Therefore, if she has no idea whic

I'm not sure where "Since P > pi for all i, P+1 is not prime" comes from, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding you. I think you're trying to state this proof: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_number#There_are_infinite...

This same foolish title confused Digg users a few months ago when this came out. It should really be "Brain Scanners Can See Your Decisions Before You Know You've Made Them"

"I'm positive you've never open VS before" isn't a personal attack, "I'm positive you're ignorant and ugly because I dislike your opinions" is a personal attack. I have no troubles with Eclipse, but I don't use it for big projects so maybe

Er. What is the point? Now instead of looking at the picture and saying "Oh look, there's person X", you can say "Oh look, there's where I know person X was". This is like a primitive version of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Sites can be designed semantically and thus easily themed (e.g. http://www.csszengarden.com/ lets you apply totally different themes easily), but most sites are designed poorly

I am almost positive based on this that you've never opened Visual Studio before. VS has lots of really helpful and useful features; the first ones that come to mind are not "tabbed" and "search". Most of the things you listed there exist i

I can't imagine how building is freezing your computer when using the command-line isn't; all VS does is call cl, link and mt in that order, you can procmon it and watch it happen. The Intellisense thing, on the other hand, is the most ridi

"he's content with the notion that free will exists only effectively (not theoretically)" I don't understand that; how can something exist in reality but not in theory? That implies to me that the theory is wrong

I have no idea where the lottery analogy is going. Winning the lottery is entirely luck, so it seems to imply that building a successful startup is luck too, but since he doesn't actually argue that point anywhere I'm inclined to think he's

Club Penguin and RuneScape post far higher profits than World of Warcraft? Does somebody have a source for that? Based on a quick Google search it's estimated Blizzard makes about $100m a year off WoW after costs. I can't imagine free MMOs

I really can't imagine how we can use a closed-source voting system; I remember in March when Sequoia flipped out that a CS student was going to examine their machines and stopped him. Like that isn't at all suspicious http://sysop073.blog

Speaking of the voting system, why is there no downvote on the comment that started this thread? I have down arrows for all the others, but not that one. I'm still a little hazy on how karma affects all this, so maybe it's something to do w

I honestly don't see the utility of this. I don't think anybody wants to broadcast exactly where they are, even to their friends, and narrowing it down to what city you're in seems fairly useless for everyone
