Pico was the inspiration for Nano. Pico was the standalone editor of the Pine mail client. The problem with Pico and Pine was their restrictive license, therefore clones with a more sane license were created (Nano and Alpine).

When I have access to a dishwasher appliance I just don't care. If I don't I might not stack the plates depending on the distance to the kitchen and the number of plates in total. Not stacking plates is like programming without an

1987 was a difficult year to still introduce single purpose text processing computers: A year before the slightly more expensive but way more capable Macintosh 512Ke got out, the C64 got it's GEOS graphical environment. In 1986 you cou

Lack of entropy when generating keys and passwords leads to things like the infamous Debian weak SSH keys vulnerability from 2008: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-0166 So I'd prefer secure

Has anyone the time to do a code review on that: I would not be surprised if there's even less entropy in Firefox generated passwords than the bug report might indicate (e.g. just uses time and domain as random seed). If that's th

Learning Standard ML made me a better programmer (back in the day)... It was all about specifying how input and results are related instead of giving instructions to the CPU on what to do.

My theory is that the average Joe on either side of the political spectrum is NOT on Twitter nor actively uses Twitter. So if Twitter pulls the plug, what are the consequences for the general public ? IMO if Meta, Alphabet, Amazon, Uber, T

From the last 90 submissions there seem to be >5% about Elon / Twitter. Why is everybody submissing stuff about that? Why the huge media coverage overall? Twitter was atrocious to use even before it was bought by Elon Musk. Without

As I don't thrust OpenSSL farther than the date of it's next zero day exploit with a fancy name, I'd rather be able to patch any mail server ASAP when the exploit is made public... unless there is a nice mail stack that works

My suggestion is to select a solid (non-rolling) distro for your mail server, and look for a suitable tutorial for your distro that involves Postfix and Dovecot software. You'll need a fixed IP address and the ability to have your ISP

I truly like PeerTube as a technology, however I still haven't managed to build even a minimal stock of PeerTube based content creators I'd enjoy to follow. On Youtube it's easy, there's much more high quality content ab

Most sites that require an email for sign-up only verify the email address once right after sign-up. So if Google ever locks my account, my other website passwords continue to work, while SSO using Google is instantly broken. Of course I wo

Why do they argue with privacy? If Google decides to lock your account for any reason, all your third party accounts using Google's SSO are mostly fubar, as it's currently almost impossible to get your Google account back.
