A lot of the linux kernel is implemented as modules, which does allow said modules to be run under different OSes. You could probably use the module interface to implement unit testing.

I believe the moderators will on occasion reset the timer for submissions they feel didn't get a good enough reception the first time around. Presumably this post is one such.

Suppose we could identify some basis for meaning that we could be reasonably sure would be shared with beings in other universes - a Schelling point for meaning, if you will. Such a thing would be neither based on the laws of physics, nor r

"The universe doesn't care about us" =/= "the basis for meaning doesn't care about us". That is, "the laws of physics" =/= "the source of meaning".

I think the question to be asked is why you wanted to start a company in the first place. It's obviously not an end unto itself. Maybe you think of it as a way to get rich. In that case, I think you could justify staying at whichever c

We're planning on building a number of new windmills today. So long as potential future increases in wind speed are taken into account in their construction, this would be a straight benefit.

I don't think rationality is a good way of looking at it. Rationality is defined over some goal, and there's no obvious goal here. The better way of looking at it is to say that the military teaches them to treat their own life as

I don't think people understand how bad the third one is. If 100 labs try an idea and only one publishes, then clearly we can get a spurious p-value of .01. But what if 10 labs try it, and 7 publish their non-significant results. Then,
