Lichess has >300 contributors. Probably not all of them could take over the project, but probably some could if needed. It also accepts donations, so isn't an unpaid model (it's just designed to cover costs, not generate profit

Open source in general wouldn't exist without lots of people who contribute and underpay themselves for it, but I'm not sure what I'm not supposed to be making a mistake about? Can you clarify?

That’s a quite obnoxious way to go about competing with open source.

For me it’s probably Pixies - Hey, it’s like the last common ancestor of the vast majority of bands and music that I like, and just amazing in its own right. https://youtu.be/OdZGvMEeNLw

It can be helpful to write down the context of why you made your decision, so that if/when you revisit it later it’s more clear. ADRs are one way to do this: https://adr.github.io/madr/

I'm working through this book now, and it's incredible. It really makes sense for my engineering brain.

Looking through your submissions, all of those are such interesting topics. It’s a shame there isn’t time and space for all the interesting topics that must be being submitted all the time.

It does happen sometimes. It’s actually allowed to repost something that didn’t originally get traction, as long as it isn’t excessive.

Usually when I make these mistakes I’m running the command on purpose, but my context is somehow confused. So I would probably happily solve the challenge and break everything.

I am one of the replies. My parents were poor (they had me when they were both 18), and my father used drugs. He kidnapped me and my brother from my mom when I was 3 and we went on the run. He wasn’t able to keep a job because we kept havin

Very similar story here. Growing up poor and unstable drove me to seek more and more stability. I don’t really get the sense that most ambitious people are similarly driven, I’ve met a lot of people with a lot of motivations. But I’ve defin

That having a low level of shame means you can show incomplete work while you’re still learning, so you can get feedback, without feeling ashamed of it.

On the other hand, giving away 365M as cash gifts could probably drive incredible usage growth numbers. Not to say that’s what they are doing but it also isn’t the whole picture.

As an aside, that’s more of a much later creative reinterpretation of the poem. Since it’s your favorite, you might be interested in knowing a more direct translation of the original poem: — Beyond heresy and faith, there's another pla

This is kind of a romantic view of shamelessness, but really the way the examples provided seem to play out is more like a carnival barker whipping up a mob for short term ends or for a grift. I am sure we can all think of various examples

I’d definitely agree with that. I get more of an amateur interested in history (and from a quite strong English bias, at that) vibe than someone trying to present historical research, but it’s good to call that out. There are actually sever

I really loved technology connections but after a while (and not sure if it was me or him changing, probably me) the pedantic ranti-ness of it started to make it less fun to watch, even though that was a draw at first.

The only reason I don't walk away instantly is that very occasionally someone does engage in good faith and it's an opportunity for me and maybe them to learn something, and that makes the rest (for the most part) worthwhile.

Unfortunately this is true, even with non-political topics. Some people will treat sincere questions trying to understand their point of view as attacks and keep escalating/trying to make it personal. In the end there isn’t a lot you c

The specific statement I was responding to was this: > I can say I believe 80% of science wrong AND not reproducible, 10% being an outright fraud (10% being legit). .. which I interpreted to be a statement on "whether science works.

I mentioned GPS because it depends on general relativity (or at least I believe it does). Are particle accelerators a better example for you, in that they wouldn’t actually work if 80-90% of science is wrong? Or is particle physics also act
